That's about as "official" as it can get, without being "official" !!!

The website explains that the race has "extensive support of city leadership, the San Jose Sports Authority and the merchants of downtown San Jose."

Good! I hope this works out well. Does it mean anything for Laguna?

We'll just have to wait and see for Laguna. But this San Jose race is good news. Let's hope it is successful, a great race, and will be on the schedule for a long time!

This article on CART.com describes the new relationship between ChampCar and the Canary Fund, but says absolutely nothing about a GP in San Jose.

I do not know what the difference is Macdaddy, but Canary Enterprises is preomoting the Silicon Grand Prix. I think CCWS is waiting to announce this with the schedule announcement.

From speedtv.com:
Quote:
The proposal for a new Champ Car World Series event to be held next July in downtown San José, Calif., was officially unveiled Friday by San José Mayor Ron Gonzales. The San José Grand Prix, scheduled for July 29-31, 2005, will be contested around the HP Pavilion and the surrounding streets, pending formal approval by the San José City Council. It will be the eighth stop on the 2005 Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford schedule. Bob Singleton, who has organized Champ Car events in Canada for a number of years, will serve as general manager for the event.

I read it in the Mercury News this morning. The really great thing is that it is about 5 miles from my dads shop in Santa Clara, safe to say im going ever if I have to walk. I know a good resturant for an unnoficial ten-tenths meeting.

I'm quite sad that great tracks like Laguna Seca are being sacrificed for more street racing - but if this is what it takes, this is what it takes.

Laguna Seca isn't gone yet - deal is done for this year, just not announced yet... and Road America may come back in 2006 ?!

I disagree, Luke.

If they're racing in San Jose, there is next to no chance of a race at Laguna.

If that track is shorter than two miles long, we're in for a procession...

The eastern loop looks decent I guess, but the western half looks terribly mickey-mouse. As well, IF the straight on Santa Clara Street is long enough for drafting, any possibility of doing so will be ruined by the kink two thirds down the straight.

I'm worried about this one.

Well I meant that there is a chance that Laguna could be on, and if it is it would be on the 11th of September.

Luke, quoting another forum full of people who make things up isn't much good

If San Jose is on, Laguna won't be.
