Autosport web reports 2018 Motorsport technology and culture symposium.

Masaaki Bandoh rectures on joint events with DTM.
-About joint events, they will charter one jumbo aircraft and air-shipping 14 DTM vehicles.
-Regarding tires, they will use Hankook tire as one-makes in joint events.

Shohei Sakamoto (NISMO) rectures on Class 1 regulations introduced in 2020.
-Main three topics are 1) introduce of united uplights parts, 2) introduce of united aero under design line, 3) ban of external ignition of engine combustion chamber.


Orange areas will be used united parts/aerodynamics.

-However, in SGT, there are free-development areas called "Class 1 plus alpha."
-Class 1 plus alpha will be determined by future discussion.
-About front brake caliper, it will be changed into forward side in Class 1 regulations.
However this brake mounts can't be intolerable in hard SGT use. So it will be Class 1 plus alpha.

This green areas are Class 1 plus alpha areas.

-Ban of pre-chamber engine won't be used in SGT. Pre-chamber will be included in Class 1 plus alpha.

Thanks for that. Sounds like Class 1 is a big step backwards vs GT500. Standard this and standard that is not how a joint championship should be but I understand it's for the sake of level competition.

Honda will use simple type (used in Fuji test) front flick box aero.
New complex type (used till Okayama test) aero had a merit but also had a risk by using a full season.
Masahiro Saiki Large project leader says that they assumed heaviest midship BoP in the test.
And some Honda teams had used old spec engine in the test.
So there is a margin to catch up the rival.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that long awaited Class 1 is going to be just a downgraded GT500 with set of standardised parts? But who is going to pay for downgrading pre-chamber ignition engine? It's impossible just to put a usual head on and use it with different engine maps. It's just another engine. And what about tyre wars in GT500? They must have different suspension to work with tyres properly.

-In the fifth round of 2018 (Fuji), we left the problem in the race pace, although qualifying session was good.
Therefore, since then, we have emphasized the durability of the race and changed the direction of development to reduce degradation.
Because of that, you might have felt that there was no speed in qualifying.

*What is the position of Super GT in Michelin's motor sports division?
-Michelin HQ says that you can do anything if it is within the budget!
In short, SGT is a place of technical competition with rivals, so it is prioritized in all.

*Is Michelin's laboratory still in Clermont-Ferrand in France?
-Yes. Since we are air-lifting tires, it takes 24-36 hours more than Bridgestone and is expensive.
However, as we develop motor sports tires in one place, we have the advantage of being able to share information with other categories.

*Has the pick-up problem been solved?
-To the extent that the driver's feeling and lap times are not affected, we have control over the problem.

That would be a massive shame but not a big surprise given Nissan’s cost cutting over the off season. At least we will have races commentated in English even if it’s delayed a few weeks so not a total loss.

NismoTV is no more actually, well sort of. It has switched name to «lets go racing» «from the team that created NismoTV» So no longer an official channel, what a shame. I suppose the viewcount went downhill after Formula E became the main focus...

*According to the winter season test results, Team Impul's performance is outstanding.
They were quick in summer and winter, whatever the situation.
*LeMans (# 6) joined by Kenta Yamashita is also a notable team.
*In the Honda squad, Team Kunimitsu (# 100) is still strong.
However, as far as testing lap times are concerned, I feel that NSX lacks stability of speed.
*Of course Tom's (# 37) has high performance also this year.
Of particular note are Nick Cassidy's outlap run and GT300's overtaking.
His lap time is always stable.
*As for NISMO (# 23), the maximum speed of straight speed in their Sepang test was good.
I think that is due to the improvement of the engine.
*Other potential teams are #3, #8, #38, #36.

*NSX's ballast weight must be mounted at the point designated by GTA.

Well they won’t be using it for Formula D as the rules prohibit the change in engine location

This is almost unimaginable given NISMO's commitment to GT racing coverage in the last few years. Even if a lot of it was re-streaming Blancpain races.

Still, at least Super GT have seen theres a demand for English comms streaming, and honestly I watch 95% of races 2-4 weeks later anyway, so im not completely distraught at the idea of delayed posting. Same as WEC I guess
