Yeah, I saw his pit garage was all set-up with his name etc.

Well, here we go again then...27 cars...biggest line-up for a while (again)...since Brands was no more than 24 in the end I think, with Erkut & Marsh gone before the racing began.

And Craner...that's a little harsh. New cars are just filling out the field nicely, allowing races to take place throughout the field. Mark's Smith & Jones now have each other to fight etc. was great watching them battle to not be last at Brands.

And the BTC Lexus' (albeit IMO surprisingly), Motorbase's Toledo etc. can hardly be considered to be uncompetitive entrants.

God if there were 10-15 cars out there that could win we'd still be getting more moaning about grid sizes!

Gavin Smith is in doubt because of the broken ribs he picked up from Brands unfortunately.

Alfa Fan has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
I guess Vauxhall will replace him though should he be unable to make it? Especially with the manufacturers championship still undecided

Remember the collision at the start of the race, where he tangled with Hughes and hit the inside wall pretty hard?

Startline shunt with Hughes at the first race. Didn't realise he'd broken his ribs until I read about it today!

I wonder who VX would replace him with if he had to miss the races... I do remember reading that VX were all set to put O'Neill in the 4th Astra when Erkut almost didn't make Snetterton (I think) due to flight problems.

Just read that on BTCC.net - remember it now. Didn't get to see much of the Brands coverage at the time really.

They could simply upgrade Erkut's support to make him a de facto 3rd factory car, now that Owy has a regular drive.

Not sure that would be the best bet for VX to attempt to clinch the Manufacturers title, no offence to Erkut! I'm sure Smith will have recovered enough by the weekend to render this point moot anyway.

I wonder what the story was with Gavin Smith as I didn't recall him being stretchered off at Brands. Sounds like a result of his first race crash where he got turned into the pit wall. Odd that he managed to get out in races 2 and 3 without any obvious difficulties.

Only 2 cars score Manufacturers points anyhow so wouldn't need to nominate anyone else.

Team points go to 3 cars so Erkut would score if Smith didn't make it.

When we reached his car, after hitting the pit wall, he was trying to get it going. When it was realised that the car the too badly damaged, he got out pretty sharpish, could be that old adrenalin factor. Been there, done that....!

That's got to be some adrenalin rush to do 2 more races a couple of hours later.

Gavin Smith is competing in FP so far and seems pretty competitive - as do Chilton and Gio.

Times are pretty close though.

No Erkut? O'Neill is there but had mechanical troubles in the first session. Good start for Ferrier though in 11th - those old Toledos may well be the next quickest thing after the Leon. Marsh has switched to bio-ethanol and actually managed to do some serious running for once.

His gearbox was replaced during the second practice, so I think is bad qualifying result is caused by a lack of track time.

Wasn't full WTCC livery. Yellow bonnet with SEAT logos rather than the usual blue with Telefonica, but still with the Red Bull logo on the doors.

Howell has received a two point endorsement and a reprimand for his part in Adam Jones' shunt.
