Formula One Television Viewing Figures

Anyone have,or know of a site where official and independent TV viewing figures for the last 10 years can be found for

1 The UK

2. Europe

3. The World

I understand FOM do not release their own estimates to the public.

Presumably a multinational advertiser must have somewhere they can see audience numbers before buying advertising space on cars ?

Im not sure there are 'independent' as both official and independent numbers would come from the same measurement system.

In Europe its general 3milish for Spain and the UK (higher in Spain because of Alonso) German is about 9, Italy 11, France 5 or 6, Brazil 15 or so, etc. The European numbers get bigger for the primetime schedule races.

The US is nothing. About half a mil each broadcast.

A prospective advertiser gets FOM numbers from the team or from Allsport (if they're doing a trackside deal)

Yes, that has always been very much my impression too , not just obviously false, but ludicrous to the point of insulting everyones intelligence.

It no secret that even the majority of the most ardent motor racing enthusiasts are disillusioned with what they have received through their television screens in recent years.

The casual ,non-racing person who you knew some years ago had started to watch, now scoffs at even the question "Did you watch the Grand Prix " ?

It would be enlightening if we could see a 10 year graph of viewing numbers, - this must exist somewhere

They did change the system of measurement though. before it was any 'view' which is where the 55billion thing came from. If I watched 16 races, and 8 of them replayed the next day, I was 24 "views"

Now they try to count individuals and thats why the numbers per broadcast have dropped from the ridiculous 350mil per event to the more realistic 140-170

Don't they also count the snippets that are seen on the various news programmes and channels as being 'views'? If a 20 second clip is shown on BBC news I am sure they count the millions that see that as having viewed the race.

Keep in mind that the races start between 5 am and 9am, depending on the time zone, here in North America. I get up, or tape it.

Are the powers that control F1 trying to hide something?
Why do they have to be so secretive about something
so basic as viewership numbers!?:confused:

Formula One isn't that popular here in the United States,
but I love it!
