BTCC 2019 season discussion, News and Rumours!

Could it be that the old cars are getting prepared for the TCT Series?

I'm certainly not 'in the know' and things may have changed - but given that they didn't have the budget to test last year, I would be (pleasantly) surprised!

Ahh but they can now use these as TCT "rent a drives" to subsidise the cost of the FK8s.

I will comment that:

A) the door card being in place seems odd for a racer (someone shoot me down) as the card is unnecessary weight to drag around.

B) if they are last years FK2's why would Bert have worded the tweet like he has?

C) why would you have new FK2's built - I don't believe last years cars to have been badly damaged?

Therefore they must be FK8's. Unless this is a Bert "Shake with Shaun" to get tongues wagging and confuse simple minds like mine!
A - minimum weight limit would mean the door card isn’t really an issue, they’re not a standard door card either, they’ll be thin plastic (or maybe even carbon) and weigh next to nothing. There will also be impact protection rules in the regs, ie no sharp edges, which will mean a door card is the best solution.

B - they will have gone back to dynamics for a full strip down, blast, repair, update and repaint. They were originally supplied and built by dynamics so he’s not worded it odd really.

C - they’re not new.

They absolutely aren’t FK8s. A simple photo with Steve Neal has meant we’ve been talking about BTC since round 30, speculating over nothing but keeping their name in the forefront of everyone’s mind, clever marketing if you ask me!

Edit - for reference, here’s a picture of the door handle/door card on a Eurotech FK2 (excuse the picture, it’s a screen grab and I’m blocking most of the view), the handle is identical to the BTC picture

(I know it’s already been cleared up with Bert’s next twitter post but it shows that all the FK2s were identical when they were first built)

I agree Robin, they are the FK2's: I now know this for definite. I've been told stuff (not allowed to say) and prior to that have been looking at Civic pictures with a magnifying glass. They have indeed been to Dynamics, pulled to bits, tickled up and put back together. So maybe it really just was Steve shaking Bert's hand in a "well done mate" way. Or shaking on the agreed cost of tickling the cars up over the winter.

BTC new cars was to this winter what the Speedworks new car was to last winter: eejits like me taking 2 plus 2 and coming up with a crazy figure. We'll no doubt do the same again this time next year....

I don't think that had anything to do with Matt Neal winning - I honestly doubt he knew or cared who won that race. I assume it frustration with his own problems...

You’re right. They wouldn’t of been offering drives in FK8’s if they weren’t running them.

Well that picture was an FK2. It has been to Dynamics for tickling up. Clearly somebody somewhere is intending to race it...

Who said the pictures from this year?

If it is a current picture ,as BTC still own the FK2's and have been looking at 'other' racing series it wouldn't surprise me that they are being prepped. TCR was an option they were looking at last season (obviously not with the FK2's). Someone did want to buy the FK2's but didn't get an entry for this year.

Just a random thought - is it possible that BTC may only have one FK8 at the start of the season, running it alongside an FK2?

It wouldn't be the first time that a BTCC team has run two different models simultaneously.

So are they in fact running Jason Plato in a Sherman tank? Crush the opposition, guaranteeing victory.
