Perhaps.
I also was thinking about how some classes of motorsport don't even have mirrors... and you have to be darn sure about your passing in that situation! Karting is one, but the drivers' view is not really obstructed in that case. But midgets and sprint cars and almost every Saturday-night roundy-round car in the US run without mirrors. |

Ross actually quite made sense.You would believe that a driver spend more time looking forward than backward.
Hence, racing drivers usually make a judgement whether a driver behind can or cannot pull a move on them...and when they see that the driver behind can't, they concentrate on the turn and commit to findiing the best line/speed. Hence it is indeed irresponsible on the overtaking driver to pull off over-ambitious move from so far back and expect the driver in front to give way. Of course, it would be a different story if the overtaking driver had a clear shot yet the defending driver shut the door, but Ross is quite right in the situation that some drivers overtake rather recklessly. |
