Mike Smiths' Mobil1 1987 Sierra RS Cosworth

Hi,

I'm wondering what happened to Mike Smiths' 1987 Sierra RS Cosworth with the Mobil1 livery?

This is pre homologation / RS500 so, no, not the Trakstar cars.

I know it's a rare one and probably not everyones cup of tea, it's not even my cup of tea either but I just wondered if any one here has any ideas?

From what I have read via google he only used it for a handful of races...?

Presume after that he went to drive for Frank Sytner, is that right?

Anyway, any information would be great.

This was a Production Saloon, not a Touring Car...

IIRC, it did turn out for the BTCC round at the British GP meeting, along with a handful of other prodsaloon Cossies (Robb Gravett and Jerry Mahony come to mind) but pretty sure that was a one-off, and Smith mainly did the Uniroyal/Monroe prodsaloon series in '87, then stepped up to the BTCC full-time the next year alongside Sytner in the Prodrive/Mobil M3s.

I'd guess the Sierra was sold on to another team in Production saloons after that?

Okay, I googled some different terms and found a site called Motorsport winners.com

Their is a list of surprise, surprise, the winners of the 1987 Uniroyal Production Saloon Car Championship.

It seems Mike Smith partnered a gent by the name of Lionel Abbott, together winning round 13. Oulton Park & 14. Brands Hatch.

Robb Gravett being the class A champ.

Lots of familiar names in the list who raced in BTCC.

Hi Kelvin88, does your father still own this car? If so, do you have the website address?
