Force India To Sue Lotus

"The Force India F1 Team confirms it has instigated UK civil proceedings against 1Malaysia Racing Team SDN BHD (a Malaysian company), 1Malaysia Racing Team (UK) Limited (Lotus Racing's parent companies), Michael Gascoyne and Aerolab SRL."

Presumably they'll be fined $100m if found guilty.

And expulsion from the constructors championship. Well, that is the rule, let us see if it is applied.

This is different, this appears to be an issue with Aerolab rather than Lotus.

So I'm wondering if Aerolab's "indemnity" they issued to Lotus will mean they will pay any fines? Could still result in a Lotus exit from the championship.

If they still have an "entry" but are excluded from the champioships, does that mean they can pick and choose which races (if any) to run at for the remainder of this year and then use the savings for future car development?

Indeed. Jean hasn't changed any of those rules yet.

Although, I hardly think that too much fuss will be made if Lotus get booted out of F1. Someone should have told them that you need to be much more established in F1 before you can even think about getting away with stealing other peoples property.

Here is the most shocking statement: "Force India confirms it paid approximately one million euros in autumn 2009 to secure the payment claimed by Aerolab"

Force India paid someone?

Well, stealing floppy disks isn't that severe we've learned. So we'll have to wait to find out how aero models will be treated.

It's interesting that Force India doesn't want Lotus to be punished but instead just tries to save some money by not paying a contractor.

Ah, what a shame.

I do hope Lotus are up and coming stars of the future, and can live up to the "Lotus" name.

Yeah, supposedly stuff about McLaren fuel, cooling and gear system and some unusual suspension part on the silver cars. Nothing came of that one. Of course, things did come of when Nelsinho threw it in to the concrete.

This leads to a whole lot of interesting questions.

Bearing in mind that wind tunnel work is strictly limited:
1) How does the FIA police work done by third party suppliers?
What stops 3rd parties running their own unlimited tests on F1 models?
2) If a third party supplier represents more than one team what stops them sharing the info between their customers and hence massively increasing the development available to 2 or three customers?
ie 2 days each team is 6 days for three teams and triple the development time for each team sharing the info.

I think it's cards now, sadly. That wheel was supposedly ITV's idea as opposed to Alan Gow's.
