Started following Nicky after I went on a whim to AMA races at Road Atlanta back in the early 2000s. The 69 plate became a 1 shortly there after and the Kentucky Kid was always my favorite rider.

Such a waste at 35. He did a brilliant job to end Rossi's reign in 06, just a shame the rest of his MotoGP career was akin to Jacques Villeneuve, in that he didn't win a race after winning the title, but it was good to see him winning again last season in WSBK, and there no doubt have been more, but for this. RIP

Here's a photo that I am seeing in many tributes to the Kid. Incredibly talented on any machine, but a nice tribute from his brother, Roger Lee, who mentioned how much of a tireless worker he was, always wanting to improve the craft that he was so naturally gifted at:
