Could be a strong chance that Vettel is heading to McLaren to join Ricciardo?
Very strong and complimentary pairing, and Mercedes engines. |

1) Vettel didn't get on too well with Danny last time 2) McLaren couldn't afford his salary in their current financial position 3) Norris is Mclarens future...why on earth would they ditch the kid just as hes gaining experience? |

No chance of McLaren. If he was still performing like he was in 2011-13 it would be harder to say no, but why ditch Norris a rising star for one who appears to be on his way down
Isn’t it strange though? Back in 2011 Vettel was the dominant driver in a dominant car, while Hamilton was continually getting involved in silly incidents, usually with other drivers and ruining his reputation. How times change! |

A couple of seasons of re-focus was perhaps required in the past but his on track skills have never been in doubt. If anything it's his off track activities that raised a few eyebrows but it's been apparent for sometime now that his lifestyle is not a hindrance to his performance. |

He did. Massa moved moved Webber over out of the way and left room for Fernando to make a pass. Fernando then threw it away by sailing off the road a couple of laps later.
Fernando just wasn't good enough on that day. Whilst the car wasn't great, Fernando was often down at Massa level - and he's in a different league from Massa. Similar in 2010 when he had to pass Petrov for the title and couldn't do it. You'll get no argument from me that FA is miles better than SV. It's not even. discussion. But we often forget the times when Fernando should've won and didn't. 2012 was handed to him, and instead he needed help from Massa, sailed off the road, and still couldn't really produce the type of performance we expect from him. |

I think he will try something different perhaps in the states or even japan, not sure the current state of the WEC would be an attraction but perhaps a return to le mans as a single race might be on his mind.

That would have been on the Bugatti circuit, when he was in the Formula 3 Euro Series. He could do the 24 Hours and even go to the States and and do an Alonso and try to win the 500 and the Triple Crown. He's already won Monaco. However, with Vettel it might be more like F1 or nothing.

Ah, just read bjohnsonsmith's post..... A 'return' is pretty unlikely unless and until there is machinery available to him which would give a chance of a win.... |

Ferrari drivers tend to get paid decent money to run in AF Corse badged machines though Imagine that for a GTE Pro team.

Alonso did everything asked of him Brazil 2012 and finished second. Button had the win wrapped up once Hulk ran into Hamilton. |

I thought about that too - but the way they've split I'd have thought makes that unlikely. Vettel stating that there is "no longer a common desire" to work together sounds like the door to a Ferrari drive (in any series) is shut. If he was looking to drive a "works" Ferrari in GTs I suspect the statement would have been very different ("looking forward to exploring other opportunities within the Ferrari family").

I do feel that part of Vettel's problem in the last year or so has been his growing disapproval of Ferrari, his lack of form and the ease with which his team mate has beaten him certainly did not seem like the old Vettel.

Driver leaving Ferrari unhappy with the team. Not the most original story in F1, lol.

No, but whenever they have left they've cut their ties completely. Exception being MS until his Merc days and Kimi who was a last chance saloon at the time.

Given his young family and love of motorsport history, v10s etc I could see him having a few years out then coming back in GT racing or racing historics.
..I just cant see him struggling on in a midfield team. Vettel has won too much , and lets be honest, its been apparent for some time he is past his best. |

We won’t know unless he gives it a go. As has been mentioned, he does have an interest in the history of the sport. I could see him doing it, but could also see him just going home to the family, at least to begin with

Given his multilingual ability and experience, he comes across as the ideal candidate to hold a microphone.
Imagine the type of query he could ask of Hamilton, Leclerc or Verstappen and the insight he could pass on to the viewer... |

Well he loves his British comedy, so we might see a bit of Monty Python and Little Britain references thrown in! Ok, this is getting too silly....

If true (and it sounds plausible), that article is very interesting. Basically it says Ferrari never offered Vettel a new contract. And the dominoes have been lined up for quite awhile. Richard |
