European Ring
Um I was just wondering why does the European GP always happen at the Nurburgring Ring? Why doesn't it move about? Because it means Schumi has 2 home GPs, 3 if you count the Ferrarri Italian race! Why can't they give other countries a go, for instance Brands Hatch, and other places!

The European has been held at different circuits over the years (including Brands Hatch). However in recent years it has stuck at teh Nurburgring.
The reason for this is that it is just an excuse to have GP there. It puts together a strong package (shall we call it that) when compared to other venues (finacial - directly and indirectly, support, facitlities). They have also called the race there the Luxemberg GP to give it a chance too. There are two big German manufacturers and three German drivers at the moment, which helps with the package. As for Michael and home races, if you want to count Italy two, then there is four 'home' races. Its not something to worry about - Michael wins most of the 'away' races too

Anyone know why they changed it from Luxemborg to European? Until that change the 'European'title was free if an extra race was needed at short notice.

No particular reasons but FIA trying to include a suitable track with a different name to justify it's inclusion. Same theory as San Marino GP.
Of course, the presence of big German manufacturers and top German drivers doesn't hurt the Nurburgring's existence. |

Spain or Great Britain also had 2 GPs (Jerez or Donnington park). Only 1 European GP per season, so it's easier to call Ring as GP of Luxembourg, rather than Jerez or Barcelona as the GP of Andorra.

The European Grand Prix was at Brands in the 80s, and then i think the Donington race in 1993 was also the European Grand Prix.
Then IIRC the end of season Jerez race in 1997 was the European Grand Prix, and Nurburgring was the Luxembourg Grand Prix. Then in 1998 the Nurburgring race became the European Grand Prix. |
