A touring car race in 1988 was scheduled on the combined track for a week after Bathurst just like in 1987, but Bob pulled the pin due to lack of interest from overseas teams (as there was no WTCC in '88)

Last used for a Super Sprint in the late 90s IIRC

The joint circuit + dome track was used with the same enter/exit points for the Calder Rally Masters in 2006. This event was aimed mainly at club level track day competitors and tarmac rally specialists, and I think the field it attracted would have disappointed the organisers - 40 odd from memory. It wasn't repeated in 2007, so I'm pleased I competed in that event, and got to drive the combined circuit at speed .

If the runway goes ahead at Tulla, it won't be a tip, think of the birds that would be attracted to a tip, and remember plane engines and birds don't mix

Makes the land worthless.

The only other option is to open the chequebook and utilise the place.

there are lots of noises about a 4 lane drag racing track at Avalon, I am not sure if it will get up, but last I heard it was getting close, if that happens it will be another nail in the coffin of Calder

If the nearby Avalon Speedway has noise restrictions then despite the airport being there a drag strip will have problems being built at Avalon.

Last I heard Linfox will want government funding to do anything at Avalon so unless Lib or Lab fund it it won't happen unfortunately.

Also on the Tip subject, last time I looked a tip is a hole in the ground filled with rubbish. Well the Thunderdome might look like a hole in the ground but it's just something built on flat ground so that can't use it for that either.

There was a third event held on the combined Thunderdome/Road Course layout in 1987.

The Swann Insurance Series for motorcycles ran on this layout (they ran around the apron inside the banking on the Thunderdome though)
