Circuit Length

In the recent Barbagello event Neil Crompton mentioned the circuit length was 2.5km which was common for racetracks built after WW2. What made tracks like Amaroo, Barbagello, Symmons Plains all choose that length was it based on a reasonable lap time for the euipment available, or purely cost wise?

It probably just depended on the available land

This thread here http://tentenths.com/forum/showthrea...ht=Amaroo+Park provides info on the original plans for Amaroo, rather than the track that we ended up with.

I always thought both Barbagallo and Symmons Plains were actually 2.4km? Not trying to be pedantic or anything, but that's what I'd always heard, and I also thought Amaroo (still miss the place) was only 1.9km? Quick and fast, used to love watching the cars heading up Bitupave.

Used to be a regular at Amaroo, however i'm not so sure that i remember it being "quick and fast" ?

I meant it more in the way that it was a quick lap (ie. under a minute, like the other tracks), but it was certainly challenging for a small track. Sorry for the confusion.

The official length for Barbagallo for its track licence was (is) 2.415 km for the long circuit and 1.760 km for the short track

Amaroos track licence length was 1.940 km

Lakeside is also 2.41 km, which is exactly a mile & a half.
