Interesting thought that came across my mind while reading the Firestone article. Excluding oval tires, how would Firestone tires stack up against other giants of the industry like Michelin, Dunlop or Bridgestone? Has there ever been a real world test of this in recent years that I don't know of? Given what we are witnessing now in IMSA with the VASTLY superior Michelins breaking a long standing track record and recording faster lap times than continental could ever hope to achieve, it makes me wonder how other tire manufacturers would compare to the Firestone Roadcourse tires.
That's excellent news, regarding RA and Laguna Seca.

Firestone are owned by Bridgestone and for a predominantly US based series, it makes more sense from a marketing point of view to have Firestone the series's tyre.

Unlike F1 and IndyCar, Michelin use an 18" wheel for LMP1, LMP2 and IMSA. Ex F1 team, Lotus F1 tested Pirelli tyres on 18" wheels, back in 2015 but apparently this was to do with aesthetics, rather than anything technical.

What a load of PR BS. The Chilton’s own Carlin , they are totally connected with Gallagher Insurance , all this “Max is the man “ chat is hogwash. He is there because his Dad owns the team and controls the sponsorship. I cannot believe the press swallow these vacuous Press releases....

Carlin Motorsport, which was founded by Trevor Carlin and Martin Stone in 1996, was reborn in 2009 as Carlin, part of the Capsicum Motorsport Group headed up by Grahame Chilton, Max's father. He co-owned the insurance company Benfield Group until 2008, when it was taken over by insurance giant Aon plc for £738m.

Team sponsors Gallagher, first appeared as the primary sponsor for Chilton's car, when he was with Ganassi in 2016. I presume Grahame Chilton got them on board, through his connections in the insurance business.

I wouldn't say that. He finished 19th in his Rookie year, 11th in his second year and 19th again last year. Now compare that with Alexander Rossi, who in his Rookie year also in 2016, finished 11th and won Indy. In his second year he finished 7th and last year 2nd.

I've seen worse drivers in Indycars. Remember Milka Duno? Max is alright, he has qualified in the top ten before

I have no issue with Chiltons competence , it's just these press releases that spout on about what a great job he does that make me puke. Seems the main qualification these days is a bank account

Just a thought...if Kimbell is part time and Carlin is just down the road from McLaren is he a fill in for Alonso when Alonso is on Toyota duty?....
