Malcolm Smith should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
First event of the season is on Sunday 8th April - Jim Clark commemorative meeting.
Hopefully the arctic chill and sleet will cease in time for a great day's racing.

Classics have Feature Race Billing, including a grid walk.
Eighteen entries so far - details of all races and timetable at:

April 8th

The Jim Clark Memorial Meeting at Knockhill took place in fine weather.
During the lunchtime grid walk for spectators, SMRC Chairman, Sandy Denham, paid tribute to Jim, followed by a lengthy period of applause from the crowd.

Competing in his first event at the circuit, Robert Bremner, AC Cobra, was fastest qualifier and winner of both races. He was followed each time by the Rover SD1 of John Kinmond, who provided great entertainment with sideways driving. Raymond Boyd, Porsche 911, was third in each race.

Race one had Jimmy Crow, Escort RS2000, in fourth place, Alastair Baptie, Fiat X1/9 and Mario Ferrari, Alfasud Sprint, close behind.
Andy Graham, Triumph TR7V8, retired from race one but completed race two in fourth place, Baptie fifth and Crow sixth.

A new class for 2018, MK II Fiesta XR2, had three entries, Martin Ramsay, Duncan Fox and Duncan O’Neill, Ramsay winning the class in both races.

First time out for Craig Houston, Lotus Excel – unfortunately his day ended after qualifying, due to engine problems.

Next event is on May6th (anti-clockwise).

Malcolm Smith should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
July 1st

Tropical conditions were enjoyed by all competing and spectating at Knockhill,
where fifteen entrants contributed to excellent racing,

First time for a Cobra front row in qualifying, Robert Bremner one second faster than Alasdair Coates. The same order was maintained at the end of the first race, albeit with a larger gap of nineteen seconds. Raymond Boyd, in his recently turbocharged Porsche 911, appeared to be joined to the rear of Coates’ car as they crossed the finish line.

John Kinmond - Rover SD1, was fourth, followed by Andy Graham - TR7V8, Bruce Mitchell – Lotus Europa, Jimmy Crow – Escort RS2000, Alastair Baptie – Fiat X1/9,
Mario Ferrari – Alfa Sprint, Andy Walker – Mallock Type R, Michael Longstaffe – MG Midget, Martin Ramsay – XR2, Duncan O’Neil – XR2, William Conway – Mini 1275GT
and newcomer William Currie – XR2.

Bremner retired from the lead of race two after four laps. Coates inherited first place but was passed by Boyd, who remained in front to the end. Graham was third, with Crow, Baptie and Conway completing the top six.

The next races are on 4th and 5th August.

Malcolm Smith should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
August 4th and 5th

Three excellent races, all won by Tommy Gilmartin (Morgan +8) from Raymond Boyd (Porsche 911 Turbo). Andy Graham (TR7V8) took third on two occasions, Bruce Mitchell (Lotus Europa) secured third in the second race.

Ian Blacklin (Ford Capri) and Jimmy Crow (Escort) entertained the crowd with marvellous close racing, swapping places many times in the third race. Blacklin just in front the finish, however Crow was ahead at the end of races one and two.

Several drivers posted personal best times, including Martin Ramsay (XR2), Andy Walker (Mallock), William Conway (Mini) and Michael Longstaffe (MG Midget).

Visitors included Neil McKay, making his annual trip with his Mini Cooper, Patrick Jack, MGB V8 and Roderick Jack, Lotus Elan.

Cars carried stickers in memory of Mike Toye, a stalwart of the championship since its’ beginning, working on the many TR7s which appeared over the years and assisting other competitors.
