Don't know if it's true, so I'll say 'allegedly' he had a dummy race car built specifically to hide the cigars, and the car was called a KEC (for King Edward Cigar).

Having mentioned Dean could be called a pot-hunter in club racing, it is ironic that in the Can-Am series he was a giant-killer, pitting his 908 against the huge V8s.

I don't know John. I was hoping you, Andrew or one of the other knowledgeable ones could identify him, and you could be right with one of your suggestions for all I know. As I said, the combination rings bells and I may have a pic of them from another race - will search. Here he is again a bit later in the race in a spot of wing bother.

Is it Chris Meek in his Bill Jones run Brabham? I have photo too of Chris' Brabham. Incidentally, Bill's son Gavin is an engineer with David Sears' Supernova/Petrobras F3000 outfit.

Brian Tarrant!

Just scrolling through, and came across the photograph of Brians car the A.40. I was in the same race as Brian at Thruxton when he was killed, it was the most shocking racing incident I ever witnessed, and that includes my friend Jeff Farmers at Mallory Park. I remember vividly the whole thing. We, that is the drivers, had a collection and raised a good amount for Brians family. A true racer, and a man I shall never ever forget. Gerry.

Richard Scantlebury

Way back in 1968 or 9 I went down to Hertfordshire to look at a transporter. It was at chap called Richard Scantlebury's, and in the corner of his garage was what I later found out to be the Original Jaglia!!! Now, I know that I'm getting on a bit, but does anyone else recall Richard Scantlebury, it would have been in the late sixties that he raced this machine. I'm sure that the Mick Hill car came much later. Gerry Taylor.

Jaglia Question?

Hi Andrew! Yes that must be the same bloke (unusual Sirname) But does anyone remember his car the JAGLIA? I certainly do, as I saw it, but does anyone remember him racing it at Brands? It was well ahead of the later versions, such as Mick's. Gerry.

I was certainly aware of it, saw it listed in race programmes etc, but cannot call on my memory of actually seeing it - despite being around the special saloons virtually every weekend as a boy in those days. I remember Mick's though. Big holes drilled in the boot lid and rear window to save weight.

Dear, I recently bought the Vixen Gt from 1964 that Ian Stronach built in 1962 from the third Cooper Jaguar from John Cooper. I would like to get more information on this fantastic prototype race car. Could you pass this message to Mr. Ian Stronach or ask for his permission to pass his no or e-mail to me . I am living in Belgium and will start the rebuild in September. Please send me a private message if you can help.
Thank you for your help .
Didier Van der Linden

Text from website, in case it goes missing:

1965 Kincraft Formula Libre

Chassis No. FL-012-1
4.7l Ford V8
Hewland LG 500-2

This is the car made by Jack Pearce from Tipton, Staffordshire in 1965. He commisioned Lotus Designer, Len Terry and Lotus draughtsman, Martin Wade to design this one-off Formula Libre car powered by a 4,727 cc (289 cu. in.) Ford V8 using a 4-speed Hewland LG 500 gearbox. The car reputedly clocked up 58 race victories before being entered for the first F.5000 race at Oulton Park in 1969. Over the years it suffered from more than its fair share of knocks and crashes and has had a number of different incarnations, ending up with a bluff nose, rear wing and full width slicks.

The present owner has charged us to rebuild the car by removing the additional 1970's mods and return it to its original 1965 form. It retains its original engine and gearbox plus the majority of its running gear and ancillary components. Its rebuild has been made all the more possible by the acquisition of the original drawings from Jack Pearce.

Have just spoken to Jonathan and it seems the Kincraft was sold at auction a couple of years ago as a rolling chassis to Belgium...it hasn't re-appeared as yet.

Just saw this bit of the conversation about Richard and his Janglia. He and I were building our Anglias at the same time in the mid 60s, and in fact we met at a specialist body-shop in Pinner in what was Middx. From memory, his car was there to have the firewalls fabricated, whilst mine was there for flared wheel arches at the front and massive ones at the rear which were way beyond my capabilities.

We raced against each other a few times, but, from memory, the Janglia was extremely rapid along the straights but a handful around bends. It was also quite fragile and I seem to recall it being unreliable.

I also believe that he eventually sold it to Mick Hill, who cured some of it's ails and had some success with it.
