Cheap, good air fields

Guys,

Having driven Croft, Mallory, Santapod, Rockingham and the Nurburgring with a bunch of fellow BMW MINI drivers we are now looking for a cheaper option to get our sideways frills.

Have heard that airfields are the way to go to keep ones hand in. Any suggestions/contact details greatfully rec'd

Cheers

Thanks

Cheers for that, what about approaching airfiled owners direct? Has anyone done this?

Cheers

Probably not much point there are several companies doing this comercially already, its just easier to goto them... their not expensive.

I've heard of Javelin, will check them out.

Also the motorsprt link returns a time out - are they still in business?

Cheers

Airfields are fine to a point but there are a few down sides.
You really do not learn true track craft running between cones or on 40m wide stretches of tarmac/conrete.
They are ideal for finding the cars limits in safety but all day going every which way but forwards is only fun for so long.
The other thing to watch is the surface condition. quite a few airfields are concrete blocks which can be very rough and also very gravelly. Ideal for singles stage rallies though!

Elvington is popular
Bruntingthorpe is a classic of its type.
Kemble is sort of Ok but has a slightly worrying return section which has oncoming/passing traffic with only an earth bank in between.

Wherever you go enjoy it!
Of course ALWAYS take an instructor with you !!

Alconbury Developments (try directory enquiries) would rent the runways and set up a circuit of your choice for £600 for the day.

That was in 2001 and may have changed/increased since then.

What about marshallin etc. though?

Thanks

I have contacted a few airfields but have so far failed to find a nice cheap one.

Any idea how much Bruntingthorpe costs?

Any more ideas of sites in central UK?

Did a shared day at Rockingham, not an airfield and too expensive for an exclusive day, but very good track.
