History of marshalling

There are many books, films, articles about motor racing history, but what about marshalling.

Is there anything out there?

I didn't know that, I'll certainly buy one.

First Marshal

This character at Beaulieu may just have been walking in front of a horseless carriage so that it didn't frighten the horses...or he might be an early Marshal...is the first use of Marshals documented anywhere?

rbs is correct to say there is a book on the history of marshalling on its way but it has been a somewhat protracted birth! First problem was the almost total lack of information available. Then I moved house with everything in boxes for six months or more, got involved in the protracted sale of a business and ran into a complete blank on getting publishers interested at a cost that made sense to me and provided an affordable publication. I was, I must admit, somewhat deterred!

However, encouraged as always by June, my wife, I did get back to it this year and ran off the first hard copy last month. This exposed some gaps that I am now trying to fill. I have set myself a target of finishing the book by the end of this month and hopefully a publishing company recommended by John Newman's mother in law, will publish it in time for the Christmas lists.

Any profits from the sale of the book will go to the Marshals' Club.

You could speak to Derek Lawson. He has had a couple of books published and may be able to offer you some advice about publishers.

Yes, I did contact Derek early on but it is hard to get publishers interested unless you have a complete project to offer. Hopefully, nearly there now.
