There is definitely a few things they need to do with the cars. They are fine, just too expensive.

Less tech would make it better. And more affordable

Compromised should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
From Motor1.com article -

"The Chevrolet Camaro logged just 2,792 sales for the same period, representing a deathly 58.2-percent drop compared to last year"

Future's looking bright for Gen3!

The Mustang is in decline too, although nothing like to the extent of the Camaro.... just to make things worse for the Gen 3 future.
Seems the Dodge Challenger is the one to have.

Camaro and Mustang sales have steadily declined in recent years while Challenger sales have been mostly stable. This also isn't the first time that Challenger outsold Mustang for a specific sales period,

Hopefully they find good replacements for their current cars. Although it's not looking great, hope they find a good solution. Having a Dodge in the series would be great, but not sure the chances of that are strong

I think it's important to separate sales from cars that we'd like to see race.

It is QUITE obvious from car sales trends that we care less about watching the cars that we buy race.

I had 2 Golfs for a total of 14 years, and now I have a Benz GLC.

I watched TCR for curiosity really but it didn't hold my interest. Supercars vehicles had the look (until the Mustang) and sound that I enjoyed watching, even though I was never going to buy a ZB or a Mustang.

I will enjoy watching a Mustang race a Camaro because they look good, and I'll be especially happy if the new engines have some more growl. I have heard comparisons from the test of the Gen3 GM motor, and people say it is more like the MARC v8 sound, which I really like.

If we can have 2 cars that don't look goofy, sound good, and there's equitable racing where a good driver with a good team can win when they get everything right, sign me up.

If sales aren't relevant and the potential of cars racing in the series which are no longer for sale doesn't worry you, why did we ever move away from the Commodore/Falcon dynamic?

The best option may be to go back to the last Commodore/Falcon and call it done. The Camaro in Oz is about as relevant as the Commodore/Falcon because none are now available.

Obviously the current formula can still work, but can the cars be replaced

Yet people are happy to watch GT cars that are not relevant or available either. Because it doesn't matter.

This is what the Brazil series did anyway, just stuck with their cars when manufacturers left, and it is a strong and colourful series.

The difference with Camaro and Mustang is that it is aspirational. We don't buy them because the are less practical for example but we still desire them, so watching them race is interesting. And we still have red vs blue tribalism past the demise of Holden and Ford manufacturing.

I'm struggling to see why anyone would advocate for basing the race cars around road going models - it only adds cost, complexity and heartache.

What used to make it worthwhile (road relevance, sales etc) apparently doesn't matter anymore, so we've got all the cons with none of the (old) pros.

Though I understand this kind of asinine logic is part of Supercars DNA, perhaps a simpler approach is required?

Get the brain trust to design 3 race car bodies - let the fans pick one and let's go racing. One engine. One body shape. World class drivers and teams. Excellent tv production. CHEAPER!!!

What would people complain about when 888 *still* win everything?

Fair, but at least no one could say the P word in a "single make" series
