Peter S should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
2003 British Rallycross Grand Prix

Today we are pleased to announce the launch of the new British Rallycross Grand Prix website.

The new website can be found on:

http://www.BritishRallycrossGP.com

The regulations for the event have been finalised and a deal has been concluded that will see the 2003 covered on Satelite television.

All the leading drivers from around Europe have expressed massive interest which could make it the best Rallycross event seen in England for a long time. The 2003 event will take place on October 11th & 12th at the Croft circuit. Will Gollop will lead the British Challenege against the European regulars.

The Internations Cup will also be included which will again see each nation represented by 5 cars compete in the team event. This is for 2 wheel drive cars only.

A lot of you rallycross fans may also be interested in the history section. This will continue to evolve over the coming weeks.

Doesn't that list of previous participants and winners just make you want to travel back in time to the heydays of rallycross? Look at the cars and drivers and tell me that there is as much flair and entertainment today as there was back then. This is not a "bring back Group B" statement, it's that I have a soft spot for the old cars.

I totally agree Hog, just looking down the list of cars that took part in those events makes me drool

I know the group B cars have had their day and that things have moved on but the modern machinery just doesn't have the same character does it?

RS200 vs Focus
205 T16 vs 206

They're the obvious comparisons - the newer cars don't have the same presence - in the paddock the RS200 still looks quick even when it's just sitting there.

Having said that the newer cars do provide racing that is just as close and just as exciting so I'm not complaining too much! This years Grand Prix should provide an awesome spectacle - hopefully I'll be able to make it up to Croft for that weekend.

It was announced yesterday there will be a support event for the Juniors.

Also all cars in division 1 supercar will run to FIA weight limits. Group B cars arent allowed at all in the event. Doran therefore wont be racing his RS200

Not the Junior minicross surely? They really don't belong at an event like this. I know it's harsh on them but it really is dull to watch.

The Juniors (junior minicross) are great!! Future of rallycross. Tommi Walmsley is class in is well worth watching any time. They will probably run on the saturday of the event, as the GP free practice, GP timed practice and GP first heats will run the same day.

It was a very popular descion, something that will be great for GB rallycross

They may be the future of the sport but really the only thing they add to the day is a convenient break in the decent racing so people can go and get a cup of tea. They belong with the clubman championship really.

The MSA events should have the supercars, modifieds, top stock hatches (to limit the numbers) and the minicross.

The grand prix should have the supercars (or division 1 - whatever you want to call it) and the modifieds for the internations cup (although judging by the numbers it might be a struggle to get a team together this year!).

I think it's a shame that the GP at Croft this year is not allowing the Group B cars to enter. At the end of the day they only thing that this rule is doing is preventing us (and the rest of Europe) from watching one of the biggest characters in the sport, drive the most spectacular car in the sport because let's face it, Doran would have been the only competitive group B car around a fast flowing circuit like Croft.

I could understand the decision if the British Champs were running euro regs at the moment but with the Group B cars in their final year and with it being probably the penultimate outing the RS200 will ever have, i was hoping it would be allowed a final swansong.

I just hope that Pat can rent a euro spec machine because at the end of the day he's the reigning British Champ and could possibly retain the title this year and he's not even represented at what will be a brilliant international event in his home country!

I spoke to Doran at Blyton and he accepted this rulling viewing it as the correct way for Rallycross to move forward. It is a stance that organizers have been wanting to take for a long time and it is important to show commitment to European competitors and rules. This is further emphasised by the fact that all cars in the GP will be running to FIA weight rules evening up the competition throughout the field. All drivers and partys involved have accepted the rules with open arms viewing it as the way forward for the sport. Doran himself has been keeping an eye on Europe for a long time and maybe he could be ready to go back very soon when he gets his new car at the end of the year.

With the rules changing in GB for 2004 then it was important that this ruling was taken. Especially with amount of European drivers expected to come over and big satelite television coverage.

It has been announced today that there will be another support event at the 2003 BRITISH RALLYCROSS GRAND PRIX (October 11th & 12th at the Croft Circuit) for Group B cars, providing there are enough entrys. This is in addition to the Junior Rallycross cars.

There has been one amendment made to the technical regulations for the British Rallycross Grand Prix. Cars running to MSA British specification i.e. unrestricted, will have a minimum weight of 1220Kg. In line with the 2004 MSA regulations.
