Ex BTCC MG ZR Racing abroad

Have just came across an ex Btcc MG ZR being raced abroad.

I don't know what the series is called that its being raced in and it looks as though the car may have been changed into S2000 spec cos the Btcc style rear wing has gone.

Does anyone else know anything about it??

Yes it is an ex-BTCC car, the photo's are from Round 1 of the 2005 German Production Car Championship takes place this weekend at Oschersleben, where WSR race at the end of last year. There where two cars with Mathias Schläppi and Rainer Bastuck one at the wheel. They where entered by Mauer Motorsport, with assistance of West Surrey Racing, on behalf of MG Rover Switzerland.

As for the races Mathias Schläppi won both of them.

Mathias Schläppi indeed won both races on Oschersleben in April, he also won the race at the Nordschleife (1 race only) last weekend.

It is a race of the DMSB-Produktionswagen Meisterschaft Division 1. This series had a great back-fall during the winter. Numbers are very low if you compare to the 2004 season. Official page => http://www.top10sport.de/

They wouldn't be one of the cars which Collard is driving though?

If not how many MG ZR cars did WSR build?

I think they built 2 in 2001, 2 new ones in 2002 (Team Atomic Kitten got the old-spec cars), and then 3 fresh ones in 2003. I think the car Kartworld raced in 2004 (and plan to race a bit this year) is 2002-spec, but don't quote me.

i think these cars must be newly built ones, or cars built up from previous years cars to current spec, as i heard collard used what was turkingtons 04 car for the media day but has actually been racing what was reids 04 car

and they're mg zs not mg zr

Team Atomic Kitten. Goodness. I'd forgotten they ever existed. Perhaps that was for the best.

The tell tail signs are the front bumper cut outs and how many exausts there are. The bumper had more of a cut out for the 2003 car (I think) and had 4 exhausts not two. The photo looks like the front end is not BTCC at all.

Good car, good drivers good sponsor - could do with that now we only have a few cars on the grid. More to the point Colin Turkington got his break there and Gareth Howell had a good run too and you never know might come back one day I would hope. Proton, for example, were bad at least Team AK where up at the front alot! Mini rant over and off point just needed saying.

I liked the team being in the series! Good looking car, professional team, good drivers... would sooner see that than half a dozen others I could list right off the top of my head.

sharpy,

I'll see the MG team next week (22nd Mai) at Hockenheim. I'll ask the two UK MG team members who drove the cars before.

Well Sharpy,
this is what they (the WSR people) told me at Hockenheim:

Bastuck's car is the one that Anthony Reid raced last year.
Schläppi's is a spare one that never raced before, but was used for testing and every other possible job.

If other info is needed, feel free to ask as I meet the WSR guys every race.

Eddy

From the four WSR staff there at Hockenheim, three were sure that it is Anthony's car from last year. One even made the effort to climb in the car to have a look in the back. Seems there is some sort of identification there.
Maybe Reid used more than one car last year?

The 2 cars that were sold were 2 of the 2003 spec cars. The other 2003 cars went to Jason Hughes last season.
The 2 Atomic Kitten cars are still around - one at WSR in Sunbury (IIRC they are open to offers) and one is in MG Sport and Racings facility at Longbridge.

cross posted from MG Forum.....

"Very coincidentally, I received a very detailed PM from Beat Maurer of Maurer Motorsport this morning.

The two cars that are running in the German series are 2003/02 and 2003/04 - although I have PM'd him back to find out which driver - Mathias or Rainer - is using which car! As soon as I have it confirmed, I will pass it on.

Just had another PM from Beat Maurer of Maurer Motorsport - 2003/04 is being driven by Mathias Schläppi and 2003/02 by Rainer Bastuck."
