2004 Laps Led
Much is made of how many laps people lead in American racing (NASCAR, Champcar, Evil Racing League etc) but not much is said about it in Aus.
Anyway, I counted 'em all, and here are the results......... Ambrose 255 Bright 121 R.Kelly 77 Murphy 66 Skaife 60 Tander 38 T.Kelly 22 Baird 18 S.Richards 16 Wills 10 Morris 8 Johnson 8 Wilson 7 Besnard 6 Longhurst 4 Winterbottom 3 Tratt 3 Noske 3 Dumbrell 3 Brede 2 Ingall 1 Bargwanna 1 Bowe 1 Weel 1 McConville 1 LOL @ Russ and McConville, 2 race wins and 2 laps led between them! |

With the pitstops TKR have gained a few more than CPR.
If were a sprint type race it would show a pure speed difference. Interesting |

In the three "sprint races" so far this year (Pukekohe, 3 x 100Km 0 pitstops), there were no lead changes in any of the races!
R1- Ambrose 36 laps led R2- Bright 36 laps led R3- Bright 36 laps led Thank god for pitstops! Interesting out of the 25 to lead laps this year, neither of the FPR cars are in there! |

There is only one lap worth leading, all the others are just fluff

Russel Ingall has led more laps than that at the QLD 300 he was leading most of the race until Ambrose over took him in the pits

No but I used their site to get the statistics (not hard to find) http://www.racetime.com.au/?event=x0...15&view=result and quickly showed Ingall never led the race.

Sorry - not this time. We just share the same interests in statistics. I'll mention you to him when I see him next.

Im pretty sure McConville has only led a quarter of a lap this year!
Interesting to see Skaifey having lead the 4th most laps this year. Considering he is 19th in the standings. Last edited by Timu; 14 Aug 2004 at 03:56. |

Here's a different slant:
Ford (9 drivers) 285 laps Take out Ambrose - 8 drivers, 30 laps led Holden (15 drivers) 450 laps Should this go in the Parity thread? |

Stats tell you something about a race that pure results cannot - even looking at lap charts don't always tell you the real story of an event.
Pity that AVESCO's results remove lap 1 times and any lap time over 10 minutes (idiotic decison IMHO) |

ufortunately, in australia being the first car after the safety car does not necessarily mean you are the race leader..
