DanicaFan should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid

Awesome, this means I can watch the Turkish GP and then have this on in the evening!

Should be an interesting race, though the cars do need turbos to spice things up with a good ol' turbo fire.

DanicaFan should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I know this has been posted in another thread but this new qualification and point system needs to be in here as well..

Here is the new format...

There will be a new qualification procedure for the Indianapolis 500 this year as well as how they distribute the points for the championship standings..

On pole day (May 22)they will qualify the top 24 spots for the 33 car field. They will still do the traditional 4 lap attempts. These attempts will be made between 11am-4pm. Each car will have 3 attempts during this time. After 4pm, the top 9 drivers in speed will have thier times erased. They call this the "FAST NINE ".These drivers will start no worse than 9th in the race. These 9 drivers will then make at least one 4 lap qualifying attempt between 4:30-6pm and possibly another attempt if time permits. The starting positions will be determined by thier speed. Then, the pole winner will be declared. If the weather is bad, the times from thier original qualifying session will determine thier starting position. Drivers from 10-24 will fall in position by speed.

On Bump Day (May23), the remaining 9 spots from position 25-33 will be filled(12-6pm). These spots will be determined by speed with the same 4 lap qualifying attempts. Once the 33 spots have been filled, the bumping will begin until 6pm and the field will be set.

As for points for the championship standings, this will be different for this race only. These points rewarded are as follows..

Pole Sitter - 15 points
P2 - 13 points, P3 - 12 points (front row)
Rows 2 & 3 will receive 11-6 points depending on starting position.
(Example - P4 (row 2) gets 11 points, P5 - 10 points. etc..
Positions 10-24 - 4 bonus points
Positions 25-33 - 3 bonus points

The Peak Performance Award Prize money will go up as well. Here is how it will break down..

Pole Sitter - $175,000
Position 2 - $75,000
Position 3 - $50,000

Thanks DF, dude does his homework.

Looks like three makeup days if qualifying gets rained out.

I counted 39 entries: word is that the AFS car is a myth, and I'm not so sure 3G will be rolling in either. Any idea?

AFS raced last year in Sonoma...maybe they have the material yet...and they also have personnel (from indy Lights team)...I think it's only a problem of sponsorship...an maybe it's the same for 3G...

Thanks Jag, sometimes I think I may put too much effort into this..lol

As for 3G, I have heard down here the names Richard Antinucci, Jaques Lazier. Heck, they may even bring Stanton Barrett back...

I know that 3G was trying to set the team and car up with Antinucci prior to the start of the season.

Can you enlighten me people?

I have never been an Indy fan so there are meny things I still dont get about it. Why is it that there is a full month of tests every 1 week and not just a regular weekend like in any other race?

It would be if they would not have so much time of safety car everytime something happens. They should find the way to take the SC in faster.

ANd maybe a big fault is the TV coverage I get at ESPN, with sooooooo much commercials every 5 minutes.

I cant hold on and began zapping.

What has become of the Villeneuve rumour? Why is there no 2nd Newman Haas entry with driver TBA on the list?

Does Rahal Letterman Racing really intend to run 2 cars this year? #30 for Graham is confirmed. What about #17?

Who is linked to the 3rd AJ Foyt seat (#16)?

I presume #25 D&R is likely to be run by Ana Beatriz Figuereido?

Oh, and where is Buddy Rice?

Because they are still in financial trouble for one car...

Latest word is that the third Foyt car for Lazier and the AFS car are off the list.

Barry Green will re-unite with Paul Tracy to work as his race strategist.

Here is the Versus TV broadcast schedule for qualifying:
