Gerard should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
After Bernie Ecclestone has got complete control over F1 worldwide, he's now trying to set out to control cyber-space, however the F1 supremo has failed in the first stage of his master plan.

Various websites around the world received a faxed warning from Ecclestone's Formula One Administration advising them that they were using the words/letters F1 illegally.

The fax gave a whole list of words/names that Websites are not allowed to use in their names, these include GP, Grand Prix, F1, Formula One etc.

Despite their best efforts Ecclestone's lawyers could not prove, to the satisfaction of the World Intellectual Property Organisation, that the use of such phrases as F1 automatically suggested a relationship with either Ecclestone or his businesses.

Ecclestone has had his eye on the Internet for some time and is known to be in the process of setting up his own site.
The hearing in front of the WIPO followed a move by Ecclestone to stop formula1.com using the name.
Indeed it's rumoured that Ecclestone had warned Formula One teams that if they supplied Formula1.com with news or information they faced draconian punishments.

Despite the fact that Ecclestone is keen to start his own F1 site, he has refused to acknowledge existing sites as being a part of the media, to the extent of refusing pleas for official accreditation.
When one considers that some F1 sites far 'out sell' the established media, this is a ludicrous situation.

Although this is a defeat for Ecclestone, it's a victory for F1 fans and indeed Formula One.

Ruling cyberspace was probably one step too far, even for Bernie. But no doubt he will only see this as a set back on his road to dominating the whole galaxy.

It would not surprise me to see him threatening sanctions against anyone, ie. teams who supplied info to web sites, at some time in the future.

But as was stated above this is a victory for F1 and all it's fans.

Can't wait until Bernie.com appears, if it ever does.
No doubt it will cost a fortune to visit, result in you getting spammed with Bernie Mail from the rest of his empire and be generally of less interest than the excellent sites that already exist.

The bad part about it is, he will eventually get his way, or at least part of it. He has in the past. How many people will he alienate by not allowing anyone to even discuss F1? Are we not allowed to even think about it? How much is enough?

WoW, this guy is really deranged. What, some extra publicity will hurt his business? Or maybe we'll have to pay for F1 web-access from now on. But seriously if the symbol formula1 is a registered mark of Bernie & Co, I guess they'll have to stop using it 'cause it's copyright infringement-I had a similar problem with a DNS a couple of months ago. They'll still have the DNS registration though so Bernie will have to pay some to get it. Anyway, I say Bernie sucks now more than ever!

Bernie is just a control freak !!! He wants to have the rights to everything F1 (oops?)so he can make even more $$$$. If it wasnt for the internet sites, there would be a LOT less F1(oops?) fans.

weasel = : (1) any of various carnivorous mammals of the genus Mustela, having a long tail, short legs, and brownish fur that in many cases turns white when the species grows old.
(2) A person regarded as sneaky or treacherous.

Regarding (1): A long tail? He does hide it very well then, doesn't he?
Short legs? Yep, he's got those.
A brownish fur that turns white when growing old? Right again.
Regarding (2): Sneaky and treacherous? To the point!

You could as well be right Piston Broke!
Now where's that little weasel?

"Anything.com is a privately-held company based in the Cayman Islands."

-That sounds like something Bernie would like to be involved in

From "AnyF1ng.com"/ Business plan of B.E. :

1. All races are replaced to Cayman Islands (CI)Don't you know how many island there are?.
2. The only Avia-company flying to CI belongs to Bernie.
3. The only TV-company getting entrance permission is Bernie TV.
4. IF team has no money to fly to CI, it takes a part on cyber-WDC on AnyF1ng.com
5. IF you use any SOFT, in which there's F1-button for HELP you should pay for it to Bernie.

Pretty soon Bernie will assume the title of "Caesar". I heard that Bernie will also be assuming control of the technical side of F1, thus gain what would appear to be total control of F1. Anyone know anymore about this.

Hail Bernie!

In what country is Bernie offically resident (besides Fantasy Island, I mean?) Can we take steps to have him declared non compos mentis and clapped into a Home somewhere? He could then be provided with a closed-loop internet site that would reassure him that only he had control over the entire world - and this closed site would issue reassuring replies to his queries but they would be generated by a machine. And outside BernieLand the reality would return and the sun would shine on Formula One again.

The only thing that keeps me going is the thought that very soon this man will shuffle off this mortal coil and a human being will take his place. And we'll all say "Oh, thank God it was only a bad dream."
