VSCC Exmoor Fringe Trial

What better way to spend the 14th of February than to get muddy on the hills of Exmoor?

Mrs B will be Marshalling as normal, but in a departure from normal I'll be spending the day bouncing (no comments allowed here - particularly you Bishop Ranter! ). For those in the know, it will not be in Plum but in Giles Hedley's Raspberry Ford "Matilda". I suspect that I have mass and gravity on my side, but wonder whether I have much else to offer!

See you there?

Duncan

The event is based at The Anchor at Exebridge, and there is also a tour on the Sunday that takes more modern cars. PM for details if you need to know more.

Exmoor Trial

I guess this is a members only event? Where does one get to view? (Is this is a safe question away from the VSCC site?, and possibly get a signature?

Why the xxxx is everyone here, rather than fighting from within (as if it's my business!)?

Anyway, you can take your time with the replies 'coz I'm getting married tomorrow and buggering off for a few days.

Anyone know of a low cost starter vehicle?

Apologies for grandmar/speeling, had a pint or two earlier!

Congratulations on your nuptuals, Roland - but why do you feel you have to apologise for your grandmar ? Is it something genetic ?

Bernard

P.S. I'm hoping/intending to be at the Exmoor - if I can get there in time to be of use for marshalling - but then you can get my signature at the next Langport meeting anyway.

This is a bigger and friendlier pond to swim in, so it looks like we'll be here for a long time.

The event is officially members only, but there are also "spectator" hills that the public are encouraged to watch. The best way to find out where these are is to head to the event HQ (the Anchor, Exebridge) at the start and friendly people will be there to give you instructions and signatures.

Good luck with the nuptuals.

We did this a few years ago, go early or it will be deserted and take the OS Map(s) (VSCC loves Grid Refs!) and clean muddy boots.

Also (unlike the Welsh or Hereford spectator stages!!!) most of the hills don't have parking, so after the marshalls have parked and the competitors have formed a queue you may find you have a long walk. Especially if you go to Ringcombe. {Park at yellow T junction to right, walk to middle of wood.}

Some pictures in the gallery on
Vintage Knowledge

The other option is to ask to marshall, many non members do, and get a run on the Sunday Tour in their classic.

Fifi won't be well in time for the Exmoor but here she is having finished the Hereford on a weekend when the sun shone and everyone said there was no mud! (and yes she was clean and shiny before she started the trial)Fiat 501s

So go along early, see some great cars and performances, stay for the beer and watch this site - once she's better I may well be looking for a navigator.

The Exmoor is a superb event (if the weather is kind...)
I bounced last year in a Raspeberry Model A Ford and have rarely enjoyed a week-end so much. Apart from the dinner in an upmarket pub/restaurant. A good meal, but it was 14th February and we were the only table of three.....and three men at that! Strange looks all round and the waitress wouldn't serve us...

My place as bouncer has gone to Bugeyed this year because I thought I was going to Rome for the Rugby. That isn't happening, so I will have to marshall, I cannot miss the event!

Roland,

Don't forget to bring your VSCC application form along (even though we now know that the number of new members recruited with the help of modern technology is "minute" )

Yes, I'll be armed with forms so you can all play "Spot the New Boy".

I missed the bit about our numbers being "minute", having missed the last few days of the "wake"... oops, going off at a tangent.

Coincidentally I'm working on a job here using just the map to get me to Ringcombe.

Also hope to see you a week on Thursday at Langport

'VSCC Events' have posted on the home forum asking people NOT to spectate at Ringcombe, as I said above, there's virtually no parking and it's a long walk. So info sheets at the pub!

Oooh, the weather's looking promising for the Saturday, according to this site. It should be nice and wet under-foot and -tyre, but dry overhead.

Er Bernard! It says wind and rain for the 14th

Maybe the BBC will be better - they got it more right for the Measham (well, apart from the sunny bit)

Please do say hello

STEVE (green fabric/aluminium Seven Special Car No. 21)

PS: Don't bother spectating at Ringcombe. Good hills (particularly Ringcombe 2) but no good for spectators.

Doh ! 'Twas different at lunchtime today - why can't weather forecasters make up their minds and stick to them. Hey, ho - who really cares, anyway ?

Sure will make a point of saying hello.

Best place to meet - at the Pub at the Start/Finish.

See you all there.

Duncan

PS If coming to the finish, get there early and buy your Beer in bulk - they get a bit rushed later on!

Yes Duncan it certainly does get rather frantic on past experience

Buying in bulk may well be very good advice

Couple of queries:
1. What time is the start at The Anchor?
2. If I can help in any way, with whom do I get in touch?

Sorry for the delay!!!!

Dear Ex_MAD_O

I've only just picked up my instructions, so sorry for the long wait.

Scrutineering starts at 8.00a.m. tomorrow morning and finishes at 10.00a.m.

If you still would like to help, Ian Horsnell is the chap to look out for tomorrow. Failing that, I'm now i/c Allers Wood MR 181/924 261 in the afternoon, so if you'd like to join us, that would be great (choccy biccies will be provided!!!!)

Look forward to seeing you soon.

First, belated birthday wishes

I spoke to Ian Horsnell the other evening, and he is fully covered for marshals, but I shall be around anyway. May well get to meet you at Allers Wood.

Well, if you were there, you'll know what a cracking day it was today up on Exmoor. If you weren't there, then you missed a great event. Even the sun shone !

Brilliant.

Brilliant day from the spectator's point of view.
Photos to follow.

After dropping in on GoThat Way, we went on to Molland (hill 2), very challenging, then after lunch to Allers Wood where Mrs BugEyed was very much in charge and even managed the job of commentator, great fun.

Quotes of the day:
1. "It's the wrong sort of mud".
2. "I don't like the look of this".
3.

Bernard

Not at all, Roland. In the (sometimes rather long) intervals between competitors, I spent the time either chatting to the other marshals or just lazing in the sun. 'Twas wonderful !
