Bluewolf has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Goodbye Tonio -- Hello Sebastian #2

Or will it be #1 ---- next season it will be the battle of the Sebastians to see who is the number one driver at STR -- here's the link --

Has there been any other point in the history of Formula 1 where a team has fielded two drivers with the same first name? And how will their radio communications work around that potential problem?

You assign them different titles. The options are numerous, but what they actually call them is essentially irrelevant. One Sebastian, the other Vettel (or vice versa). You could call one Bluemonkey and the other Fingergap. I fail to see the problem.

I cannot say I am at all surprised with this development. If it is true that STR had an option on him, then it would've been a bit bonkers for them not to take advantage.

I am very happy for Sebastian Bourdais, I know that he has been wanting to get into F1 for some time now, and it finally looks like he will have a stable team that has signed him.

Well, they tend to communicate to the different drivers by pressing the relevant button to open the relevant channel.

However, it does not matter either way: all they have to do is not call them both Sebastian over the radio.

It is really, really, really, really simple.

Is it me?

Tonio would do well to go test for Ferrari for 12mths.... and simply restore his rep....

I think the two got be very easily confused over the radio in the middle of a race.

Let me say I'm not happy at all for both drivers involved:
- For Liuzzi cos he doesn't deserve to be fired
- For Bourdais cos such an experienced driver would have deserved a better team.

Luizzi has not been fired: his contract will not be renewed. Different things.

Bourdais' alternative is not getting a drive at all.

I commend you for managing to find the most negative outlook possible on the situation...

Bourdais

Well then it works both ways; they should be only talking to one driver at a time anyway so what does it matter.

If this is true, it's great news for both tonio and Bourdais. Tonio's rep has taken a serious dent over the last 2 seasons, so as someone else suggested, a move to a big team like Ferrari as a tester may help.

For Bourdais it's simple, if he does a good job compared to Vettel and begins to help the team sort itself out in terms of their technical understandings of their car, he'll be a great asset and may get the move to replace DC in the RB senior team in 09.

Toro Rosso will still be a back of the grid team, but you look from outside-in at Tonio and Scott, and though they may be quick, you can't imagine them inspiring and motivating...

yep Tonio to Ferrari you heard it here first especially since MS thinks Tonio is fast... (he beat MS in the world championships a few years ago!) An Italian tester on the cheap for Ferrari out pacing Massa and Kimi would do no wrong for the PR machine also!!! I can see La gazzetta dello sport now!

Everyone knows that the problem with STR is not the drivers or the car. Both have proven themselves elsewhere. The problem is the management, which is not so proven.
Any F1 rookie going there is not doing their career much good, they would be better testing for a proper team.

As for Liuzzi outpacing Kimi!! Maybe if you blindfold Kimi or cut one of his arms off. Liuzzi is a good driver but just not in the same league as Kimi when it comes to pure speed. Who is?

Not so confused as the Japanese. Didn't they transliterate as Birundiru and Birunderu?

(Team-mates with same first names - Brabham in the 70s, Reutemann/Pace...)

Thinking of possible communication problems, they should sign Buemi as test driver.

Well, they could open a channel that contacts both at once. Anyway, yes, it makes no difference at all.

This has been my point throughout this painfully (unnecessarily) laboured point of discussion!
