Some more 1960s club racing photos
We haven't posted any photos of 'old favourites' lately.
So here is a new thread... How about this old advert? The race car is a Vixen Imp engined Formula 4 from 1968. I think the track is Silverstone but not sure where, either Maggots or Chapel? |

Yeah - what a great shot!
Look at the understeer. Its taken at Silverstone in the days when the apex of each corner had the small brick wall marking the edge of the track - can just be seen at bottom left. Must have been a fantastic place to stand to take photos back then. Can't imagine being allowed to stand that close on the inside of Copse these days! |

Those rear engined Fiats pictured above used to race with the 'boot' lid propped open for extra cooling for the engine.
Trying to remember who raced them - Ed Swart springs to mind. |

I think they were one of the first to be prepared by Arbarth, Fiats tuning house?

Ed Swart is quite right, Andrew. Other Abarth Fiat saloon drivers were Ab Goedemans, Toine Hezemans, "Pam", and even Arturo Merzario used to race one for a while.
And on the subject of the bootlids being propped open for cooling, wasn't it Bill Blydenstein and John Handley who deduced that if they could knock the boot stay off with their Mini Coopers, they could make the engine cover snap shut and the Abarths would overheat! |

Just found this which seems to be the same Lotus 47 as in Andrew's posting on 20th October. I took it at the hairpin at Mallory. The date isn't recorded but it's in my album sandwiched between trips to Brands for the International on 29/10/67 and the Race of Champions 17/03/68!
The driver was John Calvert. |

Aha. Just found a meeting where I wangled a photographers pass, the Martini International at Silverstone on 17/05/69.
So here are some pics from the inside at Copse, firstly Chris Craft leading Pat Mannion and Alec Poole... |
