TCR Spa 500

This weekend first edition of the TCR Spa 500.

Entrylist is disappointing. I had expected more teams.

Practice, qualifying and race will be live on the TCR TV Youtube channel.

Why is the race 23 hours? Or is there a clock change overnight this weekend?

Wait that can't be it? Just 18 cars? I was expecting 30-40, and I thought Dynamics were entered? I was really looking forward to this but quite honestly 18 TCR cars around Spa isn't really worth it?

Was expecting 30+ but not even 20

23 hours or 500 laps. Whichever comes first. They need a time limit in case it rains or whatever. I'd guess they can't stop at 24h otherwise SRO wouldn't be happy and at 25h Fun Cup wouldn't be happy. And a 26h+ race doesn't sound the most fun to be in plus Fun Cup might even have an agreement to be the longest race at the circuit. This is all guess work but it doesn't sound incorrect.

That's still an entry list of 72 drivers and its a grid larger than most TCR-category endurance races but I'm sure I remember seeing an earlier provisional list with at least double the number of entries?

Maybe next time open entries to GT4, shifting focus to a more AM-directed endurance race around Spa? It doesn't look as if there are enough entrants out there to make a purely TCR-focused endurance race viable

It's such a shame as 24H Series have done a really good job of promoting it on social media (some great photos / videos from this morning alone) and I know the livestream will be really professional.... but 18 cars (17 now according to their Twitter) around Spa just doesn't really work. Let alone by the end of the race, when half the field have retired and each position is spread out by about 5 laps...

Really it needs to have about 40 entries, and honestly with so many TCR series and drivers in Europe alone, I'm surprised they didn't achieve that

17 cars is a bit disappointing. Was hoping we'd get at least double that.

Race so far has been pretty good but definitely missing a few dozen cars.

Might be something to do with costs; I heard €100k per car....

Next year the race is in May.

I would rather see a 6 hour race on Sunday. Start at 10.30, finish at 16.30.
Each car 3 to 5 drivers. Pro and amateur drivers.
Prefer only TCR cars, but maybe add Clio's, Mini's, etcetera - but ONLY touring cars, NO GT4.

I agree on no GT cars. There’s the Total 24h for that-yes GT4 isn’t included but well that’s a matter for the SRO. I like the concept of this race. Don’t forget that the Spa 24 was a touring car race before it became a round of the FIA GT. Have TCR as the top class and add in other touring types like Minis Clios etc.

I too expected a bigger grid (mid 20s) but it’s the first event so maybe people sat this one out to see how the event would pan out and look for next year if the event was a good debut.

Shortening it to six hours would make it far cheaper to enter so you’ll get more entrants in doing that. But on the other hand there’s nothing like twice around the clock at Spa of all places.

I heard that GT4 cars costs 200k and GT3 500k.
I never liked touring car endurance races, I mean aren't touring cars made to race in sprint races, without drivers swap, maximum 1 hour like in IMSCA Michelin Challenge?

It's the wrong time of year. Many championships are wrapping up around this time of year, so resources and budgets are already stretched.

It's also a non-championship event and one which isn't (yet?) prestigious, its difficult to justify 25-50k for such a race

IMSA Michelin Challenge have races last 2 hours, with a couple of rounds lasting 4 hours. Teams of 2 or occasionally 3 drivers.

Not sure what your point is here.

Isn't IMSA where you can out-qualify a GT4 in your TCR, and still have to start behind it?

Since the 90s touring car racing is sprint racing, it's nice to have some longer races.
