2009 Predictions Time-Capsule

Time for a bit of pre-season fun.

Let's all make 5 predictions for 2009, then at the end of the season we can dig it up and see who got it right, and who got it badly wrong.

Here's mine:
  • Lewis Hamilton will win the WDC
  • McLaren will win the WCC
  • Mark Webber will score his maiden victory
  • Nico Rosberg will score his maiden victory
  • Jenson Button will line-up on the grid at least once

Smokey 6 litre should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Lewis Hamilton WDC

Mark Webber will NOT socre his maiden victory, he'll break down while in a strong position to win a race and then everyone can have lots of fun talking about how unlucky he is.

There will be at least 6 different GP winners

Vettel will comfortably beat Webber.

Only 6 cars will be running Kers by the start of the European season.

.

Jenson Button will come on the drivers market, free with any purchase of a Honda Accord or similar priced model.

BMW to win the WCC.
Nick Heidfeld to win the battle of the BMW's.
Williams to finish in top four of WCC.
Honda to not find a buyer.

Here's mine.
Hamilton will win the WDC only because Kimi, Felipe, der Seb and Robbie will have points taken off them by team mates.
Not more than 10 points covering McMerc, RBR, Ferrari and BMW at top of WCC, BMW by a whisker.
Old fashioned drafting duel will decide Monza.
Off the track:
Good news story, Bernie will retire.
Bad news story, Williams will quit due finance shortage.

Hamilton wins the WDC
Ferrari continue to mess up it's drivers chances
Race wins for BMW, Renault and Red Bull.
No FIA Vs McLaren this season

And the Banker...
The new safety car rules will still cause "controversial" random results.

I'd certainly go with all of these. I'm not so sure this'll be the year BMW are after (as much as I hope it will be). I'd love to see Sato in that STR seat!!!

That is pretty unlikely, imo - more likely that the gaps between teams will open up again and the field will open up. We have had a period of very very close performance from front to back of grid, and that won't be the case again for a while yet.

· Max Mosley is re-elected as FIA President for life
· Max Mosley mandates that FI coverage is returned to ITV
· Max Mosley mandates the return of ‘The Cock’ (sic)
· Mass suicides of FI fans

Unfortunately, I suspect that one of these will come true

Sweet!

-in season testing ban will be lifted at some point during season

-problems at the top - Ferrari’s driver pairing will lead to turmoil within the team & Mclaren’s new team organization will lead to many mistakes.

-this will open the door for a WDC and WCC other than Ferrari or Mclaren – Kubica and BMW.

-Sato will replace Buemi for STR as Buemi’s funding will dry up

-sadly Renault will be the next team to leave F1

Hamilton will win the WDC
Ferrari will have at least one highly embarrasing incident.
Kubica to show flashes of brilliance
Stupid mistakes from Massa
Buemi is sacked or leaves before half way through the season.
One major team principal to go before Christmas.
Kamui Kobayashi gets a seat somewhere

Honda finds a buyer part way through the season and joins in the middle of the year and is woefully uncompetitive.

Can we make our guesses after more tests with the 09 cars have been done?

My prediction is: During F1 races in 2009, more front wings of cars will be damaged than in the previous year.

But how many such incidents did actually happen in 2008?

They obviously don't mean the thread should be locked because it's bad, they're point is at what point should the predictions be stopped. You don't want people putting in predictions after Melbourne Friday free practice as their predictions are going to be rather more accurate then the ones done now.

Anyhoo, here are mine:
  • Ferrari and/or McLaren won't dominate.
  • Raikkonen to out perform Massa.
  • Vettle to win more then one GP.
  • Glock to win his first GP.
  • Button to join BBC F1 Team in the commentary box (and race an LMP1 Aston Martin at Le Mans).
