Swift FR90

Hi guys.

So first off I’ve never owned a single seater before (I have run FF1600s in the past however) so I apologise for any stupid questions.

I’ve got the opportunity to pick up a Swift FR90 ‘project’ let’s call it. It’s a near complete car as far as I know including everything it needs to roll. It doesn’t have the original 1700cc engine but instead comes with a 2000cc F3R engine. The cars bodywork is in rough condition I believe, the belts, fuel cell and extinguisher will all need replacing as will the fuel and brake lines themselves. It also needs an engine wiring loom. I don’t believe it has the original formula Renault intake which could prove an issue.

What would you guys suggest this might be worth paying for?

What engine was originally in the 1990 Formula Renault cars and were they mated to UN1 gearboxes from the Renault 25?

Sorry for the stupid questions, but as someone who’s never been able to consider owning a single seater the opportunity to buy one for a decent price (I think) is really rather appealing. I don’t intend to race it just yet, I don’t have the budget to go racing but was thinking of using it for some test days here and there once it’s built before maybe making an appearance in monoposto in a few years time

Cheers guys for the help, I know it’s easy to laugh at this but hopefully you won’t laugh too much

If you are on Facebook, track down Kyle Wallace as he races a 1700cc Formula Renault in Monoposto.

Sounds like you can spend £6k on it and end up with a £3k car.

They aren’t worth much, the FR1700s, as they really aren’t very good cars. FF1600 tubes with a nasty back end. Sadly can’t be converted to FF otherwise that would be the way to go, although Swifts before the Bailey SC92 aren’t sought after anyway.
