2nd FCY as RH-R suddenly loses power and creeps into to the pits.

Congrats to Will Power.

Took a while for the race to come alive but I wonder how much of this is down to a crappy car that can't race on ovals, as there certainly was some racing after the second round of pitstops, or whether this is partially down to less downforce, which makes the car a lot more slippery and initial fuel saving?

Post race, Will Power said once he got the all clear on the fuel mileage, he could finally go racing and he's not the only driver talking about hitting the fuel number.

Ugh. A needless yellow that allowed all the championship front runners to finish up front. RHR didn't hit anything and made it to the pit lane. Even if yellow was required for safety, it needn't have lasted more than a lap rather than (10?). Run green as it should have, it may have been a win for Sato and a nice finish for Fittipaldi.

What a save by Rossi at 2/3-3/4 race distance.

Think it was a case of race distance and mileage numbers making it very marginal on which strategy to attempt. Rahal and Coyne were clearly attempting 3 stops from the get-go, as they went 2-3 laps farther on each stint. They slipped back a spot or two on each stop, but would have been well clear of the rest without the last yellow.

Nice race by Power, Dixon, Rossi. Just think the yellow was not needed and skewed the results.

I thought it was a pretty entertaining race given last week’s accident. I hope that the series look seriously at the catch fence and cockpit protection rather than just making a statement about striving for safety.

Hitting the fuel numbers was the order of the day and whether to run a 3 or 4 stop strategy and because of that, it took a while for the race to get going. As for the last FCY, that was totally unnecessary as RH-R hadn't made contact with the wall.

Power's win puts him in the frame as a championship contender. Dixon's lead over Rossi is now cut to 26 points, with 2 races to go.

I loved Will's commit of "not wanting" to drive to a fuel strategy.

Interesting race. Very processional at the beginning but certainly came to life after some track cleaning and overlapping of differing strategies.

Marco renewing and getting waxed by his rookie teammate

I enjoyed the 500, but this car struggles to pass everywhere; not just speedways.

Did you watch Mid Ohio, Iowa?

This years Gateway was more impressive than last years which is a good sign for this car

Peoples expectation of instant and constant passing needs to be reset.

No I didn't watch those races so thanks for mentioning 2 out of the other dozen I actually have seen where passing seemed to be at a premium.

I've not said anything about my expectations, but I should have clarified compared to last year, there's less passing, overall.

Glad you enjoyed the race. I think that's what you're also saying...

I enjoyed this race a lot more than Phoenix and Indianapolis. Still, the aero bodykit needs some tweaking.

I found this article on Racer.com by Marshall Pruett, prior to this year's Indy 500 and it goes into some detail about the issues the drivers are facing with the universal aero-kit. Since that article was written, the issues the drivers face are still there.

https://racer.com/2018/05/18/indy-ae...moving-target/

IndyCar is going to have to re-evaluate the UAK and in particular the underwing, which generates the majority of the car's downforce, before next season, or 2019 will be more of the same.

The driver comments certainly reaffirm what I've been noticing; they're on the knife edge all the time.
