XR2 for which classic championship?
Hi guys
I am looking at doing a few historic or classic races with my Fiesta XR2, which ones can be recommended or which ones will it be eligible for, at the moment we are running in 750 stock hatch. Thanks Mark w Last edited by Chris Y; 4 Mar 2005 at 22:18. |

Try www.csccgb.co.uk. It would possibly fit with Group 1 if its a pre 1983 car.

I think it also is also ok in the classic thunder class, as long as it's pre 1990.

You could also go for the BARC SE Track and Race car championship

Mark,
Carrera, who posts here is fully up to speed on Classic Thunder, and if you need any advice pm me and I can give you the number for someone who wrote the regs. |

Or if you don't what to run on slicks in an up to 2 litre class, how about the Toyo Tyres Modified Production Saloons?
Free tyres if you do three races and they are about tuppence anyway. www.rscc.co.uk Any questions and I can be contacted via the series web site. |

The toyo tyres is also a good series, i have watched many of these races. I am definately entering stock hatch again this year but will move next year so i am trying to do the odd race in other series to find out what would suit really, without modifying too much so then we can build a new car for the season after, all this advice is great though, i will check out the toyo regs and site. I would like to build a classic mustang but with my passion and attention to detail i would never get it finished...

Classic Sports Car Club (www.classicsportscarclub.co.uk) new 'Tintops' series if you want 40 minute races. Very open regulations, i reckon you could fit in without any modifications.

It would be very welcome in CT and you don't have to run slicks. If you are eligible for class F there is an unwritten rule that you stay behind the Citroen at all times! lol |

Yes I should point out that the slicks thing takes you into another class.
As Carrera says, it isn't manadatory. |

Sorry, link appears to be back up, but they haven't added the 'Tintops' regs yet. Regs for 'Tintops' are very similar to 'Swinging Sixties', but 'Tintops' is for newer cars. 40 minute races, 1 or 2 drivers, garages at at least 2 meetings, scrutineers come to you, entry should be £245.
Cars must be original silhouette, engine and gearbox type and use tyres from Blue Book List 1A and 1B. Engines must be normally aspirated. CSCC membership and series registration £30 in total. |

Tyres are free in CT whatever class you run in. I tried Dunlop slicks which were an improvement on the Yokos gripwise but due to their size knocked 20 mph off the top speed. Hugh Poston (XR2) has been using Michelin slicks as did the Haynes boys on the Golf. |

I am very tempted by both classic thunder and classic saloons, when are you guys at silverstone or donington? does anyone know if i could just fit straight in without any or minor mods, we are running basically grp 'n regs with minor mods. What are the costs per race and reg etc?

Mark,
For Classic Thunder go to www.csccgb.co.uk (The Classic Touring Car Racing Club) and have a look at the regs for that championship. I don't know much about the CSCC (Classic Sportscar Club) but from what I understand you'll be running against cars built to Group1 or Group A in other words although outwardly a standard car the internals will be modified. What year is your Fiesta? |

my fiesta is around 85, its hard to say as i bought it as a totally scrap shell then totally restored and rebuilt it ground up, the engine is 81 i think, the reason im unsure is the 88 i was using in the first half of last season blew so i rebuilt the one i'm using this year from new spares i had...

Its too new for Group 1 irespective of engine year.
Would also appear to be too new for Classic Sportscar Club too, that leaves you with CTCRC Classic Thunder or RSCC modified saloons. Last edited by Peter Mallett; 9 Mar 2005 at 04:57. |

Thanks for the free advert for the Toyo Mod Prods, you coming out to play with us at all this year?
Practically anything saloon/coupe/hatchback car shaped that is easily availble in this country is eligible for the Toyo Mod Prods providing it runs on the remarkably cheap (like FREE if you do three races this year) and increasingly improving Toyo Tyres. Gerry Cain is on 020-7236 0096. Whether you just want to give us a try, get extra signatures or just fancy going somewhere different you will be assured a warm welcome. |
