Macauley Jones
Macauley Jones seems like a lovely young man but I can't help but think he needs more time behind the wheel - any wheel - to make any progress.
Very rarely has a non regular race winner stepped up from a lower category into a higher category and gone on to be a regular race winner. Perhaps the biggest exception in world motorsport is Jimmy Johnson, but that is a story for another time. An argument could be made that no driver could win in a BJR car, but can Macauley get the car further up the grid? If motor racing is a confidence game, then what better way to improve ones confidence than to race at the pointy end of the grid. The week before Darwin a small number of Supercar drivers, but a somewhat larger number of drivers that could be considered Macauley's peers even if they are racing in lower categories, raced in Aus GT or TCR. Would it not be prudent to get Macauley behind the wheel of a GT car, TCR of even Porsche GT3 challenge? Get laps at the front of the field, gain some confidence and dare I say enjoy some racing with a lot less pressure. I mentioned on another post that the best thing that could happen to him is to be kicked out of the nest, but failing that at least let him fly on his own every so often. |
