Relegation and Promotion
Looking at the times from Wakefield Park last weekend I got to thinking, How would it be if the top 6 teams from Konica replaced the last 6 teams from the main game each year. The series would then have fresh faces and teams each year. There are certain teams HYL and Smiths Trucks for example that would certaimly hold their own in appearance and ability in the main game.
Now watch me get shot down. |

Bang.
You would have difficulty with two car teams. What would you do if say Skaife finished first in championship and Kelly finished last. Would you just drop Kelly to Konica or add up points, divide by 2 and take the average. |

Point taken but I guess the team would have to make a decision........still think its a good idea as it would cause the back markers to race harder

Don't really want to shoot you down cause it would be great I think, but the problem I see is that a lot of the Konica guys cannot afford to run the main series and settle for the Konica Minolta series. I think the Konica's should be used like in football, the reserves. Each of the main teams should be running at least one car in the Konica series. That would be great to see.

Why then did we see last years Konica top ten fall below the new Konica Super Teams, (Brett Peters, and others etc.)
The Smith Truck team has had cash and Tecnical support given to it. Although it has raised the game by all in the series. All cars in great war paint not looking like the poor cousins |

It might work in a situation say in GTP (Procar) if everyone was allowed to run what they wanted and not have manufacturer franchise limits and if there was an oversubscribed grid. As was mentioned, not many teams in Konica could afford to run the open series anyway. Another thing is that teams like Dick Johnson could end up with 4 cars in the series or even their Fujitsu team upgraded and Shell team downgraded.
I still think the top series should be all 2 driver long distance races and Konicas the sprint series. This would also solve the problem of a dozen or so drivers who should rightly be in the top class having a seat there. The Konica series would race at tracks that could not handle a long distance race. |
