Williams must look in despair as whatever manufacturer interest there is in single seater racing is moving into FE, so they could remain 'geared up' for a works entry again that never materialises. Ironically Williams has a hand in FE as it was the battery supplier and runs the Jaguar FE team.

Williams -Jaguar has a nice ring to it, but Jaguar have never expressed an interest in returning to F1 as far as I know.

Jaguar, per se, never even expressed an interest when they joined. The reality is that it was the close relationship between Sir Jackie and Ford that brought about the purchase of Stewart Grand Prix by Ford.

In turn, Ford named it Jaguar Racing purely as a marketing exercise, and Jaguar had no involvement in the team, with the engines coming from Cosworth and gearboxes, if I remember rightly, from Hewland.

I don’t blame FMC for the “marketing exercise” of slapping the Jaguar moniker on the old Stewart GP team. I do blame them for clumsy corporate management and a lack of constancy. If Bobby Rahal had survived and tempted Adrian Newley away from Woking, the team might have flourished.

The level of involvement required is rather lower in Formula E than running a factory F1 team in the early 2000s.

Quite, the ‘Jaguar Land Rover owned by Tata’ we have now is comparable by name only! Thank goodness.....

a controversial opinion no doubt, but i am more likely to buy a Jag or Rover now that it is owned by TATA.

Also the best they’ve achieved in F1 was seventh in the championship. They’ve managed the dizzy heights of sixth in FE.

Modern FE and the Formula 1 of 15 years ago are chalk and cheese.
