I read on BBC that he'd done some heroic catching up and was backin sight of the top twenty! Not exactly sure how, but there you go!

McRae has done really well to win stage 13 by 25 minutes, those couple of nights in the desert didn't seem to do him any harm!!

Sorry to disapoint you but Mcrae is now 17th - but has achieved his first stage win and be a healthy margin - lets hope that Nissan encourage him to do more of the same, although he is still 17hrs behind peterhansel so there really is no chance of him getting very much higher.

It is Dakar- and if something goes amiss with Peterhansel or any of the front runners..
but simply catching up from a 2 day deficit (good thing the rest stage was there and Mcrae hauled around the cancelled stages) he could make upsome time 17 hrs is a lifetime at dakar, but he has done so much he can do more He has a stage win in his Rookie dakar, any thing can happen- I really wanted him on the podium but a top 10 will suffice now i guess. |

All things considered, I think top 20 will be an excellent achievement. That's what the sensible people predicted at first. The way he's done it is impressive though! It reminds me of his early Subaru days, when he'd win RAC stages by 30 seconds or more...

And now a second place on stage 14. A top ten finish is now looking realistic, I think. Well done Colin!

I think Colin has found his niche -- and he sounds much happier and looks as if he's enjoying himself. But why are we not hearing anything from his co-driver? Of course with only 1/2 hour to cover a 17 hour day, they can't talk to everybody, but I'd be interested in hearing what she has to say -- and so, I bet, would Nicky Grist.

McRae's car is stopped again with transmission problems and he is waiting for the support truck, so no more heroics from now on, just concentrating on the finish.
I read somewhere that Schlesser was moaning that the Mitsubishi team are now pacing it to the finish... sorry Jean-Jouis, but they are still pulling top three times all the way! |
