Sad news

Although that article does contain some stunning journalism.

More seriously, it is interesting that they have now closed or sold pretty much everything in the right hand drive world.

If you have previously put a Chevy bowtie on a Holden Commodore, now you won't have to bother.....

Sad the brand is being retired but it kinda hasn't been Holden for a bit now

Red Bull Chevrolet Racing Team presumably. Guess that will mean those who like to refer to Holdens competing in Supercars as Chevrolets, based on the origin of the engine block, will now have to find a new putdown.

Chevrolet won't have any RHD cars to sell. General motors are leaving the Australian market.

Ah, no - Holden is leaving the market. General Motors will still be selling RHD vehicles converted here, according to what has come out so far.

May change of course but that is the current info.

They will not be making ANY RHD vehicles anywhere, so I don't think there will be a place to sell the converted Camaros.

They can sell them where they sell them now - here in Oz, converted here, same as happens now.

Are they not selling them in Holden dealerships?

Quelle surprise! Looks like a lot of new car showrooms are going to have to be re-purposed ...

Not sure we needed a new thread for this, IIRC there is at least one other thread discussing the Commodore disappearance that canvassed this development.

Numbers definitely much smaller & maybe not all the current 56 dealers selling the converted vehicles will want to keep doing so, maybe more will.

More will no doubt come out in due course but agree completely that from the locally sold numbers alone, Motorsport feels unlikely - although the brand internationally may choose to support local Motorsport, all remains to be seen.

Nah simpler to run a grid full of race cars sans manufacturer involvement.

A one make series would seem to be the obvious answer, it was mooted previously when Ford departed the series.

Agreed. I would suggest using the 5.2L Alluminator crate engine (a very reasonable $34,000AUD as opposed to $150,000AUD for the Windsor with it's hundreds of hours of custom machining) to ease transition costs for Holden teams.

The way I am reading the release, this could generate a significant windfall for DJ Walky?

I think he has delivered a remarkable facility and capability and if GM gives him enough of their cars, and the numbers for conversion work out, he could end up sell a LOT of cars.

Unlikely. Unless they can magically get the Camaro in the 60K ballpark, I can't see a big sales increase for an 80K car. Not to mention the Camaro is most likely dead come 2021.

Like the Silverado, the Corvette would be 120K plus, so it's not going to fly out the showroom.

On a more serious note, could Lang Lang become the replacement for Sandown? Where are the Shahins and Tony Quinn?

There's already rumblings of a local buyout of the Holden nameplate and logo.

Awfully sad news, I hope a wealthy Australian firm picks up the brand and saves it from oblivion.

Supercars have their work cut out for them, who knows what the future holds and what impact this may have on tv contract negotiation, currently underway.

The product needs to remain market relevant if you want sponsors to pay your bills.
