If I'm not mistaken, unless a bigger tank was specifically homologated, FIA App something states max sizes depending on engine capacity. For Gilbern think it is 100 litres (up to 2000cc), and I have 90 litres capacity.

My B would do it on one stop using an 120 ltr alloy tank I made.Used to run an ex works tank that gave 95 ltr capacity but was not quite enough..Consumption came out around 7 mpg on 1853cc.
Makes a huge difference doing just the one-obviously.
So you were using an illegal fuel tank capacity

Perhaps a recheck ? The capacity I was given came from someone who had to know what he was talking about.Made no secret of the tanks capacity at scrutineering either as it was labled up stating it.Scrutineered by many different scrutineers here (300 klm) Spa, Silverstone and so on.Bloody obvious it wasnt standard but never any questions.So------------'-''--'-

Cortina GT has 36.3 litre tank and 'additional tanks of 36.3 and 56 litres

I've seen photos of an estate tank mounted in the boot, which would be the 36l extra, I'm assuming the 56L was a special, so there wouldn't be that much boot left!
