Perranporth Airfield challenge

BTCC racer John George has bought Perranporth Airfield near Newquay in Cornwall, England, and although he originally bought it for business purposes he now wants to open it as a national race circuit. This would be the only race circuit in Cornwall - the nearest other circuits are Castle Combe and Thruxton over 3 hours away, so this is a good opportunity IMO

So, as we've had other similar challenges before I think it's about time we had another

Here's the location of the track in Gmap Pedometer

I never even knew there was an airfield at Perranporth, and I live about half an hour away! I think it's fast and flowing, but the runways could be used a bit more.

I had a different layout (around 3 miles long) planned, but then I saw it had to be a national circuit, so I scrapped that and made this one, now a bit under 2 miles long. Probably a bit too hairpin-y, and I don't suppose it works very well in either direction (I drew it going anticlockwise), but it's the best I can do given the area.

That's quite a cool spot, there. 20 metres (65 feet) wide roads around the airport already exist, and they would make for a great, very fast track.

All the place really needs, is facilities: pit boxes, run-off where appropriate, grandstands, lodging, and perhaps some (changes to) access roads.

The logical place for pits is along the right-most straight. However, with buildings being there, the authorities might ban air traffic on the North-South runway.

Great, it reminds me of Westhill in LFS, but without the hill bit and also for some reason a little like Mantorp. If a long enough track was built, maybe it could get a higher licence? If all other tracks are more than 3 hours away, I can see that it would be a good idea to make it a good one so it potentially could hold something like EuroBOSS?

How is this as a national circuit? if the circuit was international, I would have used both the perimiter and the infiled (would be roughly 3-4 miles in google earth)

A bit long for BTCC, but it could be used for testing of larger cars and/or endurance races.

The westmost or rightmost loops could be cut off (or even both of them) for the BTCC.

It'll be interesting to see if any of these designs are close to the circuit layout if it ever opens !

The lines aren't showing for me on pedometer, so i've bashed one out in paint.
er..

Yeah, there's three versions, (going from the outside towards the centre) The very fast, international version. The National version, and the smaller, Club Circuit in the centre.

I feel i've got a good mix of corners, but the general feeling is that the track is pretty fast.

Well here's my attempts.

The short Red circuit is 2.54 km or 1.58 miles

The Green circuit using the option first turn chicane is 3.93 km or 2.44 miles

Here's my attempt: a clockwise circuit comprising mainly long straights, complemented by sweeping corners. There are two rabbit ears at the map's top, which, having drawn them in, I'm no longer sure about. I no longer feel they're particularly in keeping with the style of the rest of the track but hey, they're in - and you can make your own minds up. The two blue lines draw attention to circuit "extensions", which actually shorten the total length of the track.

Here is my version of Perranporth:

Also, if they want to fire up the paving machines, I have a good edit. Only problem is, I'm on vacation and it's not here.
