AutoCAD probably is the best, and more expensive.
Don't really know any other program, maybe 3D Studio Max but that one's costly too...

I think that you europeans can get "Origin" by solid edge for free. I dont remember how much stuff came with it, but it's still decent.

Solid Edge is the way to go though, i've been useing it since sophmore year in high school. It rocks.

3d studio max is available on Kazaa, but you'll have to search for the right one since there are a lot that don't work. AutoCAD is also available there too.

We at FTS have used CATIA V4 and V5, Pro-E, and CadKey. CATIA V4 (my favorite) requires a UNIX workstation (expensive), and is the aerospace industry standard. Pro-E is also popular in aerospace, though it lacks the complex surfacing and lofting capability of CATIA. Pro-E, CATIA V5, and CadKey will work on a good PC. We are currently doing all our car designs on CadKey, a good all-around and relatively inexpensive ($3500) package. We will soon be upgrading to CATIA V5 (estimated $10,000)as soon as IBM and Dassault get more bugs worked out, as I believe this will become THE industry standard.

Any chance of a CAD/CAM program affordable for the mere mortal souls?

It appears that they dont offer it anymore. They offered it in the US 2 or so years ago and i think a year ago they switched to only offering it to people in Europe.

"Rhino" seems to be used for the 350Z.
