Marshals wanted - 27/28 May - Rally Endeavour Northants

This is the inaugural event for Motorsport Endeavour, an organisation to increase disabled participation in motorsports, and takes the form of a road rally/tour around Northamptonshire, visiting Silverstone, Towcester, Gaydon and Rockingham amongst the venues.

Marshals are required for arrival / departure time keeping and for manning autocourse test courses at different sites.

If you are available for either one or both of the days, your support to this venture will be much appreciated.

I can be contacted by phone on 01202 265718 (ansaphone) or by email at stevetarrant.laptop@ntlworld.com. Or PM me via this forum.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks for those who've spoken or contacted me so far. It's good to know there are people prepared to assist those who have had difficulties and strive to beat them and be accepted as "normal" in this world.

But I still need more people to come forward and offer their time & services. It is planned that you will be rewarded for your commitment for this worthy event, whether it be just a couple of hours, a whole day or both days.

So if you need a valid reason for escaping the DIY, the gardening, a bad BBQ or the decorating, then just notify me of your availability.

Cheers

Steve

Hi all,

have updated note in Marshals Wanted with details for the Saturday. Details for the Sunday to be finalised, but visits to both Rockingham and Mallory Park are expected.

Whilst this isn't a rally in the terms of the BRC or WRC, for the competitors taking part it is probably the biggest thing they have ever entered!

Therefore, if you can spare 3-4 hours, live in or around the Northants area and can man a control point (each venue requires a team of approx 4 people only) at any time for some very basic timekeeping over the 2 days of the event, your help will be very much appreciated.

One crew is coming from Russia, another from Australia, so I wish to show these people what we can do!

Thanks for reading this

Steve Tarrant
Chief Marshal

PS Just remember - one day it could be you!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, we came, we saw - and proved that disabled participants have as much fun in motorsports as the able bodied amongst us!

12 crews took part in this first MSA sanctioned event, 1 crew coming all the way from Victoria, Australia for just the event! None of them had ever done any form of motorsport before so tulip road books, circuit driving and a stage at the Silverstone rally school was a challenge for them. Whilst non-competitive, they took it all very seriously, as the stories afterwards proved. But the biggest thing was the sense of satisfaction and achievement on the completion of the event, and looking forward to the next event(possibly in the south in 2007).

For my part as chief marshal, I'd like to thank BMMC member Richard Johns who drove 90 miles just to help us out at Mallory Park (rewarded with a 2006 WRC team jacket donated by Ford/M-Sport), and to all the circuit marshals and officials at Rockingham (Saturday) and Mallory Park (Sunday) who watched us do our thing!

Maybe next time I might be able to encourage more of you to help - the members of Motorsport Endeavour may have a variety of disabilities, but their love of motorsport is just as high as yours & mine.
