Gerard should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
FINAL RESULTS Predictions Competition

The last and final round of the Predictions Competition. And we have a winner!
First of all, I would like to thank everyone - all 139 of you - who participated in this competition, and made it a success.
I couldn't have done this without you and I'll be happy to do it again next year.

Here are the results and final standings after Round 17 of the GP Predictions Competition.
RESULTS JAPANESE GRAND PRIX 2001.

10 points = Ferrari Girl.
8 points = Don K, RT, SL, Speed.
7 points = f1grandprixshop, Kenny W., kuchi, Lola, Valve Bounce.
6 points = bulldogspirit, Claire, drexel, D.R.T., pb btcc, racer69, RALFANATOR, senna12.
5 points = BootsOntheSide, botsquad, Carla O, Damon, downforce, facco, Gt_R, Inigo Montoya, Jay, ljakse, Mania, Maxmil, mtpanorama, paulzinho, Powered by JPM, Ralf's Girl, RussianFriend, Toth.
4 points = aadpack, AndyF, f1manoz, jiggly_puff, Marshal, Number Juan, R, Red, Tristan.
3 points = EERO, Faster, LucaBadoer, Raven.
2 points = Raoul Duke.
1 point = Bononi.

One very important issue. When we started this we decided to add extra points for an end-of-year prediction.
Everyone who predicted the final standings of this year's championship could earn an extra 10 points for every driver in the right place and 5 points for a driver in the top 6, but not in the right place.
However, this means that everyone who joined the competition during the season - and did not give an end-of-year prediction - doesn't have a chance of winning. And that would not be very fair to them.
But since we made this decision together at the beginning, it would also be unfair to turn back.
Therefore, we have two winners and both of them can claim there price.
First you will see the final points standings in our regular competition, followed by the Top20 end result where the extra points are added.

Valve Bounce has been held in scrutiny for further testing
Thanks Gerard - I didn't think I won anything, judging by my selections in the last two races. This is indeed a surprise.
First of all, I want to thank you, Gerard, for this competition. During the year, this competition was what kept me awake during F1 races, and made the races exciting when the drivers couldn't. So, I must say the real winner here is undoubtedly Gerard, who has won the gratitude of everyone who had to sit through what would otherwise have been endless dreary processions. In one race my heart was thumping as I had three guys in their correct positions giving me mega points, only for Rubens to dash my hopes with three laps to go. Well done, Gerard, mighty effort. Thanks for all the hard work and time involved to make this competition a success.

3rd aint bad ;-)

But, I would just like to say one big huge thanks to Gerard for running this competition throughout the year. We had a discussion about what we were going to do before the season started, and Gerard was very gracious in deciding to run this. He did a fabulous job, and deserves his own prize!

Time to get out the skis and skates!
Enjoy the offseason guys!

Thanks Gerard for a remarkable contribution. Your work set a high standard of commitment to the Forum.

I'd like to add that in the competition I went through three stages. First I merely listed my favorite drivers. Then, as the season went on, I began listing the drivers I actually thought would win the race and finally, as I was battling it out with Valve Bounce and others, I began to truly analyze my predictions and to try to understand theirs. I had to become more objective and knowledgeable.

In short, Gerard's work contributed to my development as a better F1 fan and, I'm sure, it was the same for many others throughout the list of participants.

Last but not least, I'll say to Valve Bounce that his prize for total combined scores is well deserved. Congratulations!!

It was a well thought and well fought competition (we're probably lucky the season ended before Ferrari Girl could catch up with us). A Fosters was drunk to celebrate a good season and if I ever find Penfolds Bin 128 around here, I'll certainly give it a try.

Cheers,

RT

Hey Gerard,
you put me in overall standings with total of 9 points. Since I don't remember joining this competition before Japannese GP, can you please tell me for what race that was, so that I could check it, to see if there was someone else using my name.

Sorry to be a pain, but would you be willign to calcualte the average points people scored per race entered? I only did the last two rounds, for fun, and my average of 4.5 points is nothign special, but I'd be curiosu to see where it'd put me.

Thank you very much for your kind words.
I had great fun doing this.

Answers to a couple of questions.

jiggly_puff: the prize for winning this competition is a choice between three products from our own 10-Tenths shop.
Winners can choose between a baseball cap, a t-shirt or a polo-shirt, all with the 10-Tenths logo on it.

BootOntheSide: calculating the average points scored per race would mean I have to go through all 139 competitors' results and that would take away a whole lot of my time, which I don't have in abundance.
I hope you understand. However, to give you an idea, with your score of 4.5 points per race you would - if you had competed in all 17 rounds - have reached a total of 76.5 points which would have got you up to 3rd place in the final standings. Not bad at all.

ljakse: you entered the competition twice.
In round 17 you scored 5 points. You also entered round 13 in August where you scored 4 points.
You can check it here.
And it was you both times, I checked the IP addresses and they're the same.

I also offer congratulations to the winners, and many thanks to Gerard for making the effort to run this competition.

Next year I plan on taking a little more time in choosing. This year I had my choices in by Monday far too often.
