Super Silhouettes
More of a request for information than anything else, but any help appreciated. Can usually be found lurking round in the rallycross and touring car forums but recently watched the Motors TV live race day from Mallory which I recorded way back when and was very impressed with the Super Silhouette racing.
I've been trying to find a website for it but the only thing I can find seems to be a few years out of date. Have I got the name of the racing wrong? Who is the organising club (BARC, BRSCC etc)? Due to the arrival of new baby in my life in April my opportunities to get to events further a field is a bit more limited, so I'm having to take in more club racing at tracks that are closer by ie Croft, Oulton, Cadwell and hopefully Donnington again soon. Was wanting to get to an event but can't seem find out any info. Any ideas? |

There are quite a few of the super silhouettes that run with BARC in the "Intermarque" series - they would have been at that Mallory meeting so that could be the ones oyu're talking about? I think the original Super Silhouette series died and some of the cars have found a home with BARC - they have their own class within the Intermarques. I think some of them also turn up at SEMSEC meetings to run in the sports and saloons.

Thanks, they seemed to be running on their own at the meeting which is what confused me. There was a Z4 doing all the running and seem to remember a TT and possible a 206 as well. Shame if it's died as it looked pretty interesting.

They ran on their own originally, then they ran with the ASCAR refugees and now they've found a home with BARC in the Intermarques. Their races are normally pretty good as they tend to be reasonably well matched in terms of performance.

They are basically National hot rods with space frame chassis, kevlar bodies, ford axles and vauxhall red top engines which are built to strict regulations. BRSCC used to run them as a series but then dropped them which is why some of them now run in the BARC intermarques where they have their own class. Most of the original drivers went back to hot rods or pick up racing.

To confirm what others have said they run as Class SR within the Intermarque Challenge. We're actually putting together a website together over the next few weeks, once it is up and running I'll post details.
Next race is July 18th at Lydden Hill. There has been additional coverage on Motors TV as we were combined with the TVR Challenge (who paid for the TV coverage) at Snetterton and Brands Hatch. I understand the episode covering Brands is on this evening at 6pm. Given the program is paid for by the TVR guys however they may well concentrate on their class battles rather than the race as a whole. John (Caterham Roadsport - Class C in Intermarque Challenge) |

Caught the action on Motors today, the Silhouettes got a fair bit of coverage. Strange combination with the TVR's but it kind of worked!

I see in Autosport this week is the new shp motorsport spaceframe escort that Matt Moore owns.
300bhp cosworth lump as well. Heard a rumor it might come out to play with the intermarques |

No 'fraid not, although I looked at one a long time ago. A friend of mine has a Eurocar V8, though, although he probably wants to sell it.

Hi Tristam,
Its a Peugeot 206, I bought it towards the end of last year from Kenny Coleman who now does the Tin-Tops. I'm not sure how many times he raced it, or for that matter who he bought it from or who built it!! Do you know about the truck/pick up truck meeting? Cheers |

I will send you a pm with my contact details. I guess your car is probably either a ludlow, shp, willis or haird space frame. Shp normally has a plate somewhere near the dash. |

I no a bit about your 206 as i used to race with kenny,he ran it for a couple of seasons and then dicided to move to the tin tops,it was originally a hot rod then converted to circuits as most of our silhouettes are,and it was owned by a chap called Gary Pollard,i'm not sure what chassis it is though, i hope that that is of some help to you. cheers chris brockhurst |

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the info, always interesting to know a bit about it. Im not sure who built the chassis either, def not a SHP or Ludlow. We'll have to see how it compares to all the others on Sunday! Thanks again. Philip |

Hi Chris,
There were a few issues but the main one was the exhaust. Because it comes through the baulk head and through where the passenger seat would be, the cover that was on it (which had been passed for previous meetings before when Kenny had it) did not 100% cover it. So, with a sheet of aluminum donated to us by the Loram Team my mate Craig was able to make a cover that covered it completley. There were a few other bits and bobs that some tank tape and some foil tape cured. Not an ideal start to my first circuit meeting. Did you have scrutineering problems then? Cheers |
