“When I arrived in Korea nine years ago, my first question was, when the next race was, where was motorsport, where were the tracks,” explained Donckerwolke. “Everyone was looking at me like I was from another planet. I discovered that motorsport was not a strong culture in Korea. I wonder what is the translation of BoP in Korean language tho…

3.2L TT V8, basically like I was guessing they'd do an slap together two 1.6L wrc engines. I hope it works, I'm sure it will but also eager to hear it.

Design it on computer, a couple of machines to "cut out" a few blocks and heads, internals brought in by their partners, initial Assembly, baseline dynonometer run, disassembly for investigation of parts wear, final report on the new engine...
And that's just the initial testing "mules". They should have this new racing engine ready in their chassis for track testing runs in reasonable time. Remember the amount of time that it took Isotta Fraschini to build their racer, and that was from scratch and their own designs. |

They said it'll be on the dyno in February and in the car by Summer. The Valkyrie was running since the Summer as well so it seems feasible.

From the Glick wikipedia page: "The car is developed by Podium Advanced Technologies. The car uses a 3.5L twin-turbocharged V8 developed by Pipo Moteurs; the engine is based on Pipo's existing inline-4s used in the World Rally Championship"
Seems like the Genesis engine is pretty much the Glick engine or something very similar. Again smart decision as the engine has already done 3 le mans and has proen reliable and they probably can use that experience to make improvements I |

I wonder what the most common engine configuration ever used at Le Mans is. I’m guessing that is not readily available.

I thought that. Especially if you go giddy and lump that in with V6 as it is 180deg V.
All those years with index of performance and similar might bump up inline 4 cylinder to surprising heights. V8 would be decent too. V12 not uncommon. And some real rarities. V4, V10, straight eights, … and of course rotaries. Could be relatively simple to do it for winners. |

At least currently it seems V8 is the most popular choice, but they're all different which is great. Of the current and upcoming players BMW, Cadillac, Genesis, Lamborghini and Porsche all chose V8's but only 1 is naturally aspirated. Then Alpine, Ferrari and Toyota went turbo V6 and of course Aston Martin with its glorious V12.

Fun off-topic:
http://lemans-history.com/eficacia_m.php?escolha=1 Not sure how accurate this is, as it only lists 5 V4 entries..How many 919s raced? |

From 2014 to 2017 two cars (except 2015 three cars). #2 LM winner three times in a row (2015, 16 and 17).

Re the rotary engines I wonder if Claude Buchet entry is/are in the list? What a laugh we had when he was trying to reach an acceptable speed in the long straight.

DSC has an article up talking about the ACO, FIA, IMSA and teams/manufacturers trying to come to a concensus on banning or restricting in season upgrades and "Joker" evos.

Most common engine would probably be DFV, DFL derivatives, it was used by most C2 cars
Though yes the flat 6 was very common, maybe also the straight 6 BMW. |

Of course, once a year helps with managing BoP. As the article points out we’ve already had restrictions here. Not too close to Le Mans that kind of thing. This looks important and good they are thinking about what is best, but also it seems like they are just tweaking or strengthening what we already have. |

The fact there's no official rule on upgrades during the year but everyone is playing nice is a plus. I do wonder if that stays and the 'weather' is calm between teams or if a couple manufacturers say lets clamp down on it. So far it doesn't seem like much of an issue.
