Alan Gow has a hand in making this work so I'd expect it to do well. I reckon they need to half the cost of TCR to make it highly successful. Fortunately Clio Cup and Mini Challenge are already more than alf the cost.

This should be interesting.

The Clio Cup (was) and Mini Challenge (is) great feeder series, but a unified formula for use across Europe and the globe makes some sense. Higher production volumes and business competition will lead to reduced costs.

I don't know why they are faffing around. Just use the TCR rules and apply it to polos, ibizas, Clios, fiestas, minis etc etc. Reduce the power, smaller engines, smaller brakes etc and boom.... All done.

I think for this to be successful, they need to make the new cars considerably cheaper than TCR.

Simply copying and pasting the TCR regs to smaller cars will probably not lead to enough interest, as teams will be tempted to simply run in TCR if that's just a little bit more expensive.

They will need to have standard gearboxes, standard suspension hubs/arms/etc, standard body panels, maybe all use the same brake kit. Then for race weekends it needs a limit of tyres, personnel, etc

That would end up being like a smaller Solution-F car. And we know how well that did STCC...

I didn't say components... I said rules. You could easily build/sell a new compact class car for under 50K Euros

The difficult bit here, is that most of the cars this size cost around £20k normally.

Is that still the case?

I thought a current gen Clio was about £30K?

Don’t quote me on this but I think an old gen Fiesta Zetec was about £20K, but I can’t be certain.

A new top class Mini JCW challenge car costs £ 49,950 + VAT, which is a tank of fuel away from £ 60,000, which is approx € 70,000.

Current Clio Cup car costs €44,900 Euros plus VAT & Delivery which works out at in excess of £ 46,500.

Of course there will be, smaller countries are crying for a cheap circuit racing ruleset. I do wonder what their HP range will be, I can see lots of choices on ~150 HP, not so many on 200 HP.

Two, three years ago you had TCS class in Italy. SEAT Leon ST, Honda Civic.
Depending on engine size price of cars was something like €25k...€45k.
