Doubt I'll be out with CTCRC simply because I don't have the time.
Interestingly Mark and I have only been on the track together twice. Once when he was starting out and had relibility problems and once (Top Hat Donington last year) when I had about 1000rpm lopped off due to a dicky distributer wire. So its difficult to compare. Really? Why Essex, the engine was phased out in 1982.

I thought I'd answered this. Hmm.
The engine used by the Eurocar V6 was the Cologne 2.8 according to all the info I can find, hence my confusion. Sorry Terry. Interestingly the pick ups went to 2 litres in the late nineties. Not a crap engine at all its still going strong in the Ford Explorer to name one vehicle and it can be made to work really well in a capri because it has the same engine mountings. However the siamesed ports do create a difficulty. |

In ModProds we let a guy do a de-siamesed conversion on his XR4 but it still was not up to much, still think the Essex is a better unit myself also the later 2.9 plus versions are not siamesed I believe. A Capri exponent John Warren wanted to race a Scorpio with the Cosworth V6 version but strangly the committee voted against it as he wanted to run the standard Scorpio manual box and not the automatic that was standard with the model, bad decision in my opinion.

I note the "Faberge" car is up for sale ex engine and gearbox. The front bodywork is incorrect. Its got Mk 2 indicators but a Mk3 front valance. I'm not certain if the seller really understands what the regs are.
Also the Mk1 "famous" Capri is back up again. |

I did'nt think the on track performance of the Mk1 was anything too special. I doubt that bib spoiler helped one iota around Donington, probably created more drag and slowed it down, I had no problem with the car running with it. :-)

I see the faberge look-a-like has sold, looked a nice bit of kit actually and did'nt look a bad buy for the money (be nice to see it out in CTCRC next year), same old thing is'nt it, try and build one for the same price!

Yeah but apart from the engine and box it isn't correct bodywise.

Really they should. Its the whole point of having regs in the first place.
I doubt there's any advantage cos he'll have to replace the bumpers anyway. However you go down that road and you've got anarchy. But you can either run it as a Mk11 in which case the front valance, bonnet and lights will need changing ( and a Mk11 bumper fitted) or you run it as a Mk 111 with the bumpers and all the rest of the gubbins to suit. Admitedly its a nice clean car. |

Probably not strictly correct for the real pedantic in FIA sanctioned and TopHat championships but CTRCC Group 1 clearly states that "Vehicle can be bought up to series production specification for that model prior to 1st Jan 83" and if I was in the same race it certainly would not bother me as I see no advantage whatsover and it would just be nit picking.

But that is it. Its either a mark 2 or a mark 3. It still needs the bumpers and it needs its indicators etc.
FWIW Ford homologated a clip on fibreglass front airdam for the Mk2. This then formed the pattern for the Mk3. Based on your point you don't mind the fact that last I saw, drivers were cutting additional holes in bodywork (the heater box) to get airflow to the carb). You can't see it so it doesn't matter. Sorry Al, its not pedantic its the regs. Change them and its no problem. But as they say. If its not written there you can't do it. So I hope the guy that bought it enjoys it but he's got some decisions to make. |

Right just looked again. From a blown up pic it appears to have that fibreglass air dam therefore all it needs is Mk2 bumpers and it works. The Mk3headlights and bonnet don't sit right but they don't break any rules (the series production thing).

Shame, I sold my Mk2 bumpers last year. Might still have some rear lights and stuff though.
And I do have a spare Mk3 Grill. |

Hi to all my new fans,
Just to put the record straight, reference Mallory Park. I personally feel that I worked ****ing hard for my win, and totally deserve it!!!! Reference tyres - at least mine were manufactured by Dunlop and not Yokohama or Hoosia. In terms of the Faberge Capri, it is indead a MK2 with MK2 front air dam and the indicators are infact MK1 escort indicators. Which - if we are being so picky are incorrect Peter and Colin. COLIN - you are totally correct in that you may have pressed those pedals quite a few times, but hopefully the next guy to press them may win a race. I will be out again next season and I will do my utmost to beat allcomers. On the subject of 15" wheels, I feel that since conversations in the paddock at Donnington Park that maybe this is a backward step and it would be more beneficial to all cctrc regs to allow a better Dunlop rubber as I ran and proved at Mallory. If this can be discussed then I will be happy to stick to 13" wheels and again as proved at Mallory. Dunlop DO supply tyres to match any other. I apologise as I have done personally to Neil Brey on the misconception of my alleged comments at Donnington. Namely - I was alleged to say that "I was going to slash his tyres" when in affect what I actually said was " I was going to protest him for using cut tyres" - Still not sure that shaved tyres are legal - but hey that's Motor racing!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Look forward to seeing you all next year ( hopefully infront of you all!!) Best wishes for next season and a Merry Christmas and Happy New Yr Alan [Mod]Hi Allan. No need to dodge the autocensor it works perfectly. Edited to demostrate.[/Mod] Last edited by Peter Mallett; 7 Nov 2006 at 12:02. Reason: Its your first post. We've got an autocensor. ;) |

Look forward to racing with you next season Alan, and chinese whispers in Motorsport can be a very dangerous thing as I once found out to my cost after getting posted at Arena and totaling a brand new car Mk1 Escort it was a long time ago) for something I was alleged to have said about another driver which was totally and catagourically untrue but just someone mischief making. Oh and the guy who posted me who is now an international drag racing star was meant to be on my team!
