I'm not saying any of the below is right (or yours wrong) but it might add something
1 I have this with Arthur Moore in UK club events 1973 2 Macdonald Macau 1972, later to Bob Howlings UK 5 I have this still with Koob in 1974 I can’t easily find any record of what Choat raced in 1974, but he had a BT30 in 1973 and a BT35 in 1975. In 1974 John Hardesty is racing a car described as the ex-Choat BT36 (which sounds like the BT30) For sale in Paris 1990 6 Raced in France early 1990s by Yves Bollé. He said it was ex-Ruesch though my notes, like yours, say 6 was Reutemann’s and the other car Ruesch’s 8 Eddie Regan Ireland 1973 then Leckie GB, and to Barak 1974 and 75 10 Iain McLaren in Scotland 1973, for sale by MRE Nov |

David .
Thank you , all assistance appreciated. BT36-1 , and your 1 , O.K. Chris , as I advised had a car with Athur Moore , described as ex Rondel. So it looks like after G. Hill / Tate of Leeds , the car then may have gone to Arthur Moore. This certainly helps , because we have the ex. Rondel BT36-9 to John Kendall , via A/S report , and if Moore has BT36-1 , then Chris Townsend advice of an ex. Rondel BT36 with Opert in the U.S.A. could be BT36-9 after Kendall, if we accept that BT36-2 stays in Japan , or at least that area for a fair while. McDonald certainly did not keep his car very long , and perhaps he traded in when he rec'd new BT40 , and that's how car gets back to the U.K.so quickly. Noted re.-5. BT36-6 , argh. how does one escape out of Argentina. ???? Chris also advised re. BT36-10 to Iain McLaren , but I thought that may have been covered with somewhere else that I stiched McLaren into, guess not , As usual this is going to become messy the further we travel. We can only try. Regards Bryan. |

I don't have any problem with McLaren having two cars - BT35X/1 in 1972 and BT36/10 in 1973 (which is what my records say)
Nor am I fazed by Malcolm Wayne's car. My records say BT36/1 went to him from Tate of Leeds in 1972, then to Howlings (who didn't race it) and in 1973 to Moore I am however (like you?) cynical about the provenance of the French BT36/6.... |

As always , thank you. I would like to see the trail of the French ex. Auto. Club Argentina car, BT36-6/-7. In Australia , if the car was ex. Argentina , and ex. the museum , we would be requiring Bill of Sale at the very least. Looks like we will have to keep an eye on that one. I will get back to you re. BT36-1 's adverts. as I just went to check A/S and the Tate adv. is there , but not the Wayne , so I made a typo. re. date and need to check. Bryan. Last edited by John Turner; 10 Mar 2006 at 14:15. Well Roy James had a good taste in cars didn't he? Perhaps he should have stayed away from trains.
BT36-6, see www.museofangio.com/visita/fit_nivel5_auto3.html for a photo of it now in the Fangio Museum. The list of races there is the same as I have it for that chassis, so if Ruesch never swapped cars with Reutemann then Yves Bolle's Automovile Club Argentina car might have been 7? I had assumed that 6, like Bryan, had never left Argentina but that could be quite wrong. In that case where is 36-7 and the two 30's? BT36-2 I had understood been raced by MacDonald in SE Asia with an FVA 'till Macau where he had a twin cam. I didn't realise that Bob Howlings later had it in the UK. In which case how did it end up on a garage wall in Malaysia where Norberg found it? |

Andrew.
Only problem is we do not know if that is BT36-6 do we. My Spanish is non existent , but I cannot see anything that looks like a ch.no. in the summary. I wonder if we can send them an email in English and ask about all 4 cars, and also ask re. ch.pl. numbers. Bryan. Last edited by John Turner; 10 Mar 2006 at 14:16. BT36/2
I didn't mention it earlier, but my notes say this car was with Mike Freeman in the UK for "many years". No dates, but some time between Howlings and Norberg (who I believe acquired it in 1993). I didn't hear any "Malaysian garage wall stories" but if they're true, they suggest the Howlings/Freeman car might have been a different ex-Rondel car Last edited by John Turner; 10 Mar 2006 at 14:17. Garage wall story came direct from Leif when I spoke to him about a month ago. The son, for whom the car had been bought, died racing in the states so there it remained. What I dont know is where it went after John MacDonald in Hong Kong & before it got to the wall!! Stayed out in SE Asia?
(John MacDonald was at last weekends Macau 50th, he's won more classes there than anyone else) David I wonder when "Fred Opert brought an ex Rondel car to the States"? because MidAm Formula Atlantic Championship winner for 1980 was Robert Willis, StL, Brabham BT36. www.midiv.org/PDF/MidamChamps.pdf I have no American publications to cross check this to see if BT36 is correct. Also I can not find any other mention of a BT36 in the States either -apart from Ian Hendersons own import and he hasn't heard of one either. On a more positive note I hope to have another 36 chassis number accounted for very shortly. Last edited by John Turner; 10 Mar 2006 at 14:19. Reason: Thread breakdown alteration |

BT36-10 History
I bought BT36-10 as a rolling chassis in Dec 76 from Mike Gue (dealer) in London. Was previously raced by Nick Overall in FA in UK (1975 season).I would like to confirm the ownership between 73 and 74. Did Iain McClaren have this BT36-10 for two years competing in hillclimb events. Appreciate any A/S references or other articles Ian |

Ian.
Wellcome. As I expected , to sort these cars out as best we can , I am now in the middle of trolling through every A/S that I have , and recording every item in relation to a car that sounds like one of ''ours ''. I am basically at the end of 1974 , as I type , and a lot of strange entities are arrising , as the cars are now being used in sprints etc. and not a lot of good info. is forthcoming. Therefore I am about to do a month by month grid of known cars , and will then end up with cars not able to be ident. at that time , or cars whose whereabouts are unknown. Mike Gue , did his business have a trading name???? At the moment , the last I have , and I am trying month by month ,is an advert. David McKinney , noted your report re . later by MaClaren. Autosport , Nov. 9th. 1972. BT36 , Chassis no.10 , believed last space frame Brabham F2 car. Fitted with all latest tweaks : Rondel nose , 15" rear wheels, Brabham modified front suspension for latest front tyres.Very competitive ( 8th Albi G.P.) but much easier to repair and maintain than a monocoque car. With wet and dry tyres on wheels, complete set spare suspension links, dampers, drive shafts, nose, radiator. Fitted battery, BD4 exhaust, graviner, is absolutely complete less engine. 3000.00 pds. Contact John Wingfield or Roger Tolson. Ascot 20040. I will need a few days to collate all this info into a better chrono. order , and then will return with lots of really obscure owners trying to sort them into ch.no. cars. Bryan. |

Hi Bryan,
Mike Gue did have a business trading name, I believe he was tied in with a F3 Engine supplier, Nelson Racing Engines. My car was advertised in A/S Dec. 76 under a private number, but was sold to Mike Gue before I could respond to the advert. Nick Overall sold the BT36-10 in late 75 to someone? (did not race in 76) that placed an advert in A/S in Dec 76. Ian |

Bryan,
Don't know what Mike Gue's business name might have been back then in London, but today he is in Atlanta area and either owns or is associated with Essex. I'll get you an email contact next week when I'm back in the office if that is something you wish. Roger |

Thanks Jeremy for the Iain McClaren/MRE ad ref.
Does anyone know about BT36-10 history in 1974. My understanding was that Nick Overall raced BT36-10 in FA only in 1975. Other BT36 info. I did see BT36-1 several times in 1977. Once with FVC in F/Libre, and once with FVA at Thruxton Aug 77, entered in G8 event as F2 car. Car had been bought from Bob Howlings in late 76. Ian Last edited by John Turner; 10 Mar 2006 at 14:21. Mike Gue's trading name in U.K. at least at the time we are talking about was Road and Track. Found it yesterday whilst trolling. Roger , I don't really need his contact in the U.S. thanks anyway. Bryan. |

If you can bear with it for a while , I have 9 foolscap pages of BT30/5/6 references up to the end of 1975. At the moment I am trying to make some sense of it , before I post , and then I will be asking some serious questions of our learned English contributors , as some may ring bells , that don't ring in OZ.
