Ingsy should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Historic Masters - Brands Hatch

I went to this on the Bank Holiday Monday only. Som excellent machinery and racing on display. Have sorted a couple out and put them up. Feed back much appreciated, as I have a lot to learn!

Some nice shots there Ingsy!

I've not visited here for a while, but I went on the Monday as well. I'm starting to think that my shots look a bit washed out and need some tweaking.

Quick question guys. I'm looking at getting a new camera before the Goodwood Festival of Speed. I have no idea where to start really so what you you recommend as a good starting point. I don't need anything too expensive. Thanks.

There are lots of 'what kit do I need' threads on here.

Define 'not expensive'?
Sub £10, £100, £1000???

Basic answer is ANY DSLR. You can start around £100, and keep going up from there. That starting price is for USED, btw!

My photos above were taken with a Nikon D40, which is Nikon's entry level DSLR.

To be honest, if you've never owned a DSLR before, you don't need any more. Amazon are currently selling it new with a kit lens for £280.

£300 as a rough guess I suppose. Looking at D40 or D60 at the moment.

For motorsport you'll need a lens covering between up to 200mm as a general minimum and preferably 300mm and there will be times that you'll crave more length.

With the cheaper Nikons you've got to make sure the lenses have autofocus motors built into the lenses as it was omitted from the body on the low end models. Not a problem with Canon as the focus motor is always part of the lens on EOS EF fitment.

I too use a D40, mainly with an old manual 200mm. There are some very nice shots in this thread, looks like a great event. The McLaren M1 looks mighty familiar

Also the historic F1 cars are a treat to watch in person. They were just at Lime Rock 10 or so days ago.

Thanks for your help guys. I ordered the Nikkon D60 today from Amazon - Body, Lens, Case, Delivery to arrive Friday £400. So will be taking it to Brands this weekend and have a play.
