The thing is a good lo0go immediately suggests the series. No one would confuse the NHL or NFL logo with any other sport because the letters are there. Even the ALMS blue painter's pallette had the name on it. This is just a super-simplified helmet --- helmets aren't unique to sports car racing or even car racing. Everyone from football to cycling to deep-sea diving uses helmets.

Can't be iconic if it is a bad icon, and an icon is supposed to deliver max info in minimal space, not deliver max confusion after being devised with minimal effort for max money.

The logo is completely amateurish... boring, hideous...
It is far from being a real Brand, miles away of being iconic. Looks like someone found a very bad helmet vector and made a logo with it.

To bad to be true...
