Age group to flag A1 GP?

Just a thought, those of you who have done A1 GP, what is the age for Flag marshals on your circuits?? This would be a big help to me .as A1 is comming to my track in Jan. 06.and this would help me out for getting marshals. thank-you for your help in this matter. ROB.

Hi Rob,

Age limits tend to be set down by the local governing body. For example in Ireland our marshals can start at 16 with parental consent. However this only applies to permanent circuits, otherwise the age is 18.

What age group do you want to target?

PS. I would suggest competent well trained flag marshals for A1Gp as it is a very quick class and requires very good flagging procedures.

Jeez! 21 is a bit steep! 24 also seems like a very low number of flag marshals, how long is the circuit?

mitzi, if your under 21's are good flaggers, I don't see an issue? Unless it's an insurance problem?

I doubt if A1GP themselves could care less as long as they have enough marshals and they know what they're doing!

Rob....you are making it hard for yourselves don't you think??? As others have said, a competant marshal is better than an old incompetant (I better be careful here as I am eligible for a seniors card soon ).

The main thing is to distribute your experience around the course (people you know can perform, who preferably have open wheeler experience, encourage a team approach and stomp on any oversized egos).

If all else fails, give me a shout and I'll come over to wave Flags and catch up with the rellos/friends

[EDIT: ohhh...and keep the lifting slings for the roll hoops WITH the tractors, if you leave them with flaggies or sectors they can go missing when needed!!]

I'm going to be out there, but not that week... I'll accept payment of the extra week's unpaid leave I'd need to take, so I'm the cheaper option.

Seriously, Rob, it runs to FIA regs which makes flagging much easier, if less effective IMO. Waved everything, no preceding flags. 16 people who can read a race reasonably should be fine even without prior flagging experience. If just half of them - one per post - are already flaggers then you'll have no worries.
